The Simpsons need to be cancelled, it's been on too long and gotten really stale.

This is true, but I think in its heyday it was better than Family Guy. I still love Family Guy, though, it's a guilty pleasure. I voted disagree and am frankly surprised to see how strongly in the opposite direction it's going so far.

I'm kind of surprised as well. But then again we all love manatee jokes.

I was under the assumption that we were comparing new/recent episodes of the 2 shows. Classic Simpsons (1990-2001 or so) were better than Family Guy.

Disagree, obviously

The Simpsons had nine or ten good seasons. Family Guy had three.

I disagreed, based on the assumption we're talking about the two series as wholes. The Simpsons were incredible in their first ten seasons, but they have fallen very far in recent years.

No way guys, both shows should have been taken off the air years ago, but when you compare the Simpsons at it's peak and Family Guy at it's peak, it's no contest. The Simpsons wins, hands down.

At one point, it was the best show on television.

Right now Family Guy is better, but I voted Simpsons because it had a longer good run and I grew up in Olympia.

Agree = heresy.

The Simpsons (seasons 2-10) must form part of any list of comedy greatness.
Family Guy just doesn't come close.

Hilarious.  I enjoy the Family Guy and DVR all the new episodes and watch the reruns a lot on Adult Swim, but one would have to be seriously retarded to think Family Guy is even in the same league as the Simpsons.  It's funny and sad that so many of you think it's better.  This is literally like asking who's better Scorsese or Bay, Pacino or K.Reeves, Sopranos or Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

I enjoy both, and both have a very similar sense of sarcastic, cynical humour. That said, I very rarely watch tv and can't remember the last time I saw either of them. My brother has Family Guy on DVD and I really enjoy watching them. They're virtually one and the same - same sorts of plotlines due to a same sense of humour... yeah, if they stand too close together, it's hard to tell them apart. I voted Simpsons because it came first and because it has had such a great long run and because it was a pretty original idea when it first came out.

Disagree. I don't think Family Guy's humor is as good the Simpsons. It's too hit or miss, and the quick cut away to parodies gets old. Family Guy lacks the subtlety that I like about the simpsons.

Based on episodes airing now, Family Guy is better. The Simpsons seems to be trying too hard to be like Family Guy these days - if you've watched recent episodes you'll note a lot of the random, senseless things that they do that they wouldn't have done back when the series was really good. Family Guy isn't in its prime anymore either, but the new episodes are still better than the new Simpsons ones.

Yes, but is the question which is better now, or which is better overall?

Right now, Family Guy is better, but if you evaluate each series as a whole over it's entire run, I think the Simpsons would win. Though it's been in decline for many years, seasons 2-10 or so were absolute genius.

The Simpsons had heart, which is something Family Guy never had.

South Park is still better than both, even in The Simpsons and Family Guy's prime.

Family Guy, obviously. Simpsons, not so much.
