Option 1. I was getting scared there.

I hope Republicans realize that they too are better off without Stevens. You can do better than that joke in your party. Put up with a lost Senate seat for 6 years and get some fresh blood in there.

Very true. I always wanted option 1.

Safe Begich.

DWDL continues to be delightfully insane, of course.

Begich, I hope. You see, if Stevens wins, it will mean that Sarah Palin will get to choose his replacement when he goes to serve time (and he will serve time). That's not an idea I'm fond of.

No, she won't. The legislature passed a law following the Murkowski debacle requiring a special election in case of a vacancy. Besides, there's nothing preventing Stevens from serving in the Senate, unless the Senate expels him.

It does not matter to me whether from a political perspective Stevens helps or hurts my team. He belongs in jail. You know, life isn't all about politics. Sometimes it about something more fundamental than that - right and wrong.

Is Ted Stevens now ineligible to vote for himself?

Senator Begich

Anyway, I heard on the local news that Stevens vowed to remain as a candidate. I know they obviously can't change the ballots now but how great would it have been if Stevens decided that he had enough and Palin decided to run as a write in (as I originally suggested months ago)?  Tongue

It'd look defeatist to the McCain/Palin national ticket.   McCain would never allow it.

Also, if Palin lost, which would be very likely, it would hurt her politically.  She doesn't have the time to campaign in Alaska either, which is essential for a good write-in campaign.

So Palin's going to run for Vice-President and Senate at the same time? No, that's not going to happen (Yes, I know Biden is doing it, but Palin isn't the incumbent, nor is Biden in a remotely competitive race.)

Because I really thought that it would happen, BRTD.  Roll Eyes
