NO NO libreals

My only worry about Obama is that he will be like Carter when it comes to foriegn affairs, although Obama has a  cockyness to him so iam not worried that much.

Susan Rice would make a good Secretary of state from what I have read and observed of her during interviews.

I think someone more liberal would be conducive to what Obama will be trying to do (i.e., mending fences and such).  And while I don't agree with his politics, I think Kerry would command a lot of respect among the Europeans.

Bill Clinton is too pleased with his ability to raise money to get a cabinet position. Richardson's the logical political and diplomatic choice.

I don't think State would be a good position for McCain. I'm not quite sure what would be a good fit for Mac in an Obama white house.

McCain is too much of a hawk for an Obama State Dep't.   I think if any Republican gets appointed it will be to Defense or Homeland Security

I'd like to see either Richardson, Hagel, or Lugar as Secretary of State.

You know, I have to believe Bill Richardson is far more effective that he appeared in his primary campaign.  But he was so God-awful, both in debate and on the stump, I'd be a little reticent to ask him into my cabinet.

He was a pretty good UN ambassador, I guess.

Is this really the guy want doing press conferences? Wink

Hell yes!  LOL

Obama should pick a Democrat for both State and Defense. Let's not reinforce the Democrats are cowards and have no grasp of foreign policy stereotype please.

Obama apparently discussed other positions other than SOS with Hillary, and he met with Richardson over the last few days too. However, the media is acting like Hillary got the job already, so he could open up an unneeded can of worms if he snubs her now.

She's qualified enough and it could be worse. It'd just be odd to have a SOS with such a massive political following.  I don't see the benefits for Obama other than neutralizing his only within-party rival and taking a potential nuisance over things like health care reform out of Capitol Hill.

As for her losing her Senate position, she apparently jockeyed for a more prominent role and Reid squashed the idea. It'd take her years to build seniority, so she may prefer being a prominent key figure, traveling the world, and of course, dodging sniper fire again.

I think Richardson is the best man for the job; he has the qualifications, and has worked with international leaders at the UN.

I do think it'd be funny if Hillary became SOS after Richardson endorsed Obama in what many considered to be a betrayal, most likely in hopes of getting that position.

I know Bill was VERY resentful over that.

I hope he does'nt pick Hillary. Throughout the primaries, whenever I saw her on tv, she just seemed fake to me. Like she was the type of person who would do and say anything to get what she wanted.

Chuck Hagel

or

Richardson, although I wouldn't  fuss over Hillary.. somebody should throw her a bone for all her hard work helping him places like FL, PA and Ohio.

The more I think about it, the more it looks like he's making moves to offer it to Hillary in order to finesse her and weaken any demand she might make.

Look at this. She can not accept Secretary of State while her husband has his global initiative. She can not ask him to shut that down. Her fall-back position is infinitely better than his.

So she turns down Secretary of State, and is in a weaker position to demand a strong office because she turned Obama down.

What do you think?

If these reports are true, the way I understand them, which is that Barack asked Hillary to come to Chicago, and asked her if she would accept the position of Secretary of State if it was offered to her.

If she said yes, she would accept if offered, then I do not see any way whatsoever that Barack could deny her the position.

Denying her the job after this would be a major political blunder, and a huge slap in the face to Hillary and her supporters.

Everything hinges on that "if." I don't see how she can. Perhaps she does say yes, and Bill Clinton can bring his ethics back into the news for the first time in many years.

Obama's Secretary of State is fairly likely to be Susan Rice, as many people mentioned. Also, Anthony Lake (former national security advisor to Clinton) is a top possibility, as is Richard Danzig, former Navy Secretary under Clinton. If he does pick a senator, I'd expect Lugar (R), Hagel (R) or Kerry (R) are the top prospects, although it should be said that Lugar has said he will not take an offer to StateSec.
Kerry is Republican? Now that's interesting... Wink
