Look at Ohio, Virginia and Florida. Some polls imagined that Obama would have an easy win in these states, but these were all SO close. Without Obama's overwhelming organizational advantage in all these states, registering new voters and GOTV, there's little doubt that Republicans would've won in each of them. Not to mention NC and IN, which he appears to have won by the SMALLEST of margins, and MO, which McCain is leading in by less than 1,000 votes at present. Without his turnout operation, these states would've gone for McCain by comfortable margins.

Obama could've likely still won without his crazy turnout operation, but it goes to show exactly how important being on top of your game is in winning close states, and especially IN and NC show exactly how much progress really can be made if you push hard enough.

Howard Dean's 50-state strategy and the Obama campaign really deserve their accolades here. The 7 point win in Virginia didn't manifest, it wasn't a cake-walk, they had to force these states to go Democratic, and it worked.

Yup. The Democrats are beating the Republicans at their own game, and it's marvelous.
