for as well as Obama did... look at some Southern states.  Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and ESPECIALLY Louisiana.  These were still McCain blowouts.

I'd love to know why.  Obama seemed to pick up white voters over Kerry EVERYWHERE else.  Race I guess?

I always said I thought Louisiana could test 60% this cycle after Katrina knocked out a lot of the blacks. Arkansas was even worse than the ones you listed. Obama didn't break 40% there. I'm surprised South Carolina went 45% for Obama, and my county, Charleston, is over 60% for him right now, granted most of the precincts still aren't in.

The south is the south.

I thought Obama would do better in the south, but Va and Nc are good enough.

Obama won Kent County, MI. Gerry Ford is rolling in his grave tonight......

Amazing how much better Obama did in rural and suburban areas in the Northeast and Midwest than in much of the South. Not sure what this says about which areas are more or less racist than others, but worth chewing on. I'd love to see Dazzleman's take on this as he often said he felt states like Massachusetts and Connecticut were more racist in reality than Alabama or Mississippi.
