Here's a comparsion with the UK. Indiana in 2004 was a GOP majority of 20% (about the 6th safest of all the GOP states). In 1997, Eastwood in Scotland went Lab on a 15% swing which was akin to Esher going Labour (as it was the second safest Con seat in Scotland)

Wow, I had no idea Thatcher's government had support up there.  When I think of Scottish politics the first person who comes to mind is Ramsay MacDonald.
