First quarter fundraising reports were due today. Here's the statewide rundown:

Governor

Creigh Deeds - $803k starting balance, $729k raised, $319k spent, $1.2m cash on hand
Brian Moran - $770k starting balance, $807k raised, $753k spent, $824k cash on hand

Excellent.

$1.2 million of McDonnell's receipts came from the Republican Governor's Association. Moran is still spending a ridiculous amount of money on consultants. But to be fair, so is McAuliffe. He just has a bigger ATM to go to.

Also, Jon Bowerbank's only significant campaign contributor is Jon Bowerbank. He loaned himself $400k, after starting out his campaign with about $200k in self-donations.

Deeds really needs to step it up and make some headlines by actually promoting himself as a moderate.  He was endorsed by the NRA OVER McDonnell in their AG race a few years ago.  He can't make the argument that he's the most electable candidate if people don't know anything about him and the poll numbers look like this.

Mid 40s? Nice starting point. The Dems will obviously pick up support whenever they pick their nominee. It's probably going to be a close one if they go with Deeds or Moran so Terry better pick up some support.

It will be awesome to see so many Dems here cheering for McDonnell if Terry is the Dem nominee. In fact, I think a decent amount might even want Christie over Corzine (or just really not care).

Whoever within McAuliffe's campaign thought that was a good idea (and I'm not ruling out the possibility it was McAuliffe himself) doesn't just need to be fired, but subjected to physical violence.

That is so pointless

I like the comment that says "Looks like Terry couldn't find any actual yards to put signs in... "

Guys, the sign war is one of the hallmarks of Shad Planking. It's stupid, but a lot of candidates do it.

Well, let's be fair here. I'm not excusing this at all. I hate this type of stuff and it's obviously totally overdone but it seems pretty clear to me that there was some type of event going on up that road. It's not like all of these were just planted on the sides of a random road in a small town for no reason.

I'd love to meet the clowns that volunteered to put them all up, took a look at their work when they were done and said to themselves, "Good job, guys."

Congrats to anyone who has donated to McAuliffe (although I doubt anyone here did).

In the primary debate, all three Democratic candidates said they opposed the state's gay marriage, and Moran even said he would fight to repeal it.

I mean, I'm sure NoVA won't care, but I wonder how well that'll play in the rest of Virginia...

And, Moran is really the only one who cares about the environment. Smiley u go moran

Oops, forgot that word. Thanks.

I think it's totally up to McDonnell if he wants to make an issue out of it. It'd be boring if he did, especially with the economy as is.

What led you to that conclusion?

Because he talked about the environment and cleaner energy the most. Deeds talked about energy-research, which is also great too. Smiley McAuliffe just spewed talking points. Did you watch the debate?

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/4/20/722247/-VA-Gov:-First-Debate-Impressions

DailyKos has a nice run down of the debate, as well as links to some segments. I thought, from the limited snippets I've seen, that McAuliffe did really well, for what's it worth, though Deeds and Moran weren't necessarily bad or anything.
