Its pretty much expected that Obama will name his Treasury Secretary sometime early in the week, but what is his next Cabinet pick?  Will it be Defense or State or even Justice (A.G.) and who?

Two things about this:

1) Out of sheer curiosity, I just spent a few minutes going through Google News's archives to see when Clinton named his Cabinet appointees.  It turns out he didn't name *any* Cabinet members until Dec. 11th, 1992, more than a month after the election.  So don't hold your breath on these appointments.  Obama's likely to take some time with this, if history is any guide.  (Bush obviously didn't start naming his Cabinet until mid-December, because it took that long for the election to be resolved.)  That said, yeah, I've heard that Obama wants to name his Sec. of the Treasury within the next week or so.

2) The Cabinet appointments are usually not named one at a time.  They're named in groups, especially for the more minor posts.  That is, you might get a single day in which the only appointment made is something important, like Secretary of the Treasury or Attorney General or Secretary of State (Bush's first Cabinet pick was to name Powell as SoS, for example), but you're not going to hold a press conference just so you can announce your pick for Secretary of Veterans' Affairs.

Clinton had something like five different days spread out over two weeks in which he announced a group of Cabinet appointees on each day.  You might have a day devoted to naming your national security team or a day devoted to naming your economic team, or to naming random miscellaneous department heads.

LOL!

I've heard some speculation about Colin Powell at the Department of Education.  Though that's all it is...speculation.  And speculation is usually worthless.

He was my pick, had McCain won the election.  Him or Ray Kelly (NYPD Commissioner) but I'm sure Kelly would be avoided after the Kerik debacle.

And if he does, we'll see US Code Title 3, Chapter 1, § 19 go into effect like never before (Presidential Succession Act).  Honestly, if he puts her high up, people could die - I would not put it past her.  I just don't know if she could pull off killing THAT many people.

Secretary of Veterans' Affairs? That could be an invigorating challenge.

Two Clinton retreads and Bush's SOD are "leading" in those.  So much for change if it pans out.
