I'd support him over someone like Palin or Huckabee.

Saw him on C-SPAN during Paul's Rassemblement.  Not a bad guy.

I'd vote for him if I wasn't living in a swing state at that point in my life.

To clarify, from what I've read on this elsewhere, I don't think anyone knows whether he'd run as a Republican or a Libertarian.  He may decide to go the GOP route, just because the GOP primary debates give you lots of free exposure (as with Ron Paul in 2008).

If he happens to run on the GOP ticket and win, I'd probably vote 3rd party or write-in.

Ah, I was assuming he was going to run for the Libertarian nomination. If he runs in the Republican Primary I'd vote for him if I lived in a state with open primaries. Tongue

I can't see him being more than a Tom Vilsack or Ron Paul like candidate.

How are they comparable?

Vilsack was a moderate candidate who hoped to have a real shot
Paul was a fringe candidate devoted to rallying his cause

Gary Johnson 2012!  I think I did a TL dreaming about this scenario

If he even got the GOP nomination, I would go around with an R-CA avatar until election day.

I meant to say that he could either be a guy who announces his run for the presidency, but decides at the last minute that he doesn't want to run; or a guy who (as you said) rallies people for his cause.

I'll give you some credit, if the Iraq War isn't an issue by 2012, he might have a chance.  I have to check out his positions on Israel/Iran/Palestinians first to make sure, though.

PS.  I can't really see him rallying the evangelical base.  Maybe its just me.

Being the devoted cultist I am, I’m still holding out hope for another Paul run. Failing him, let’s give Mitt another go at it. But I would give serious consideration to Johnson, for what little that‘s worth.

If Ron Paul doesn't run again, then I will support Gary Johnson.

Also in the rumor mill is that Paul has not completely ruled out running in 2012 and that Johnson won't run if Paul runs.

And SPC posts the same thing as I'm typing this.

Wasn't he rumored for 2008 around 2004?

This is true, he does look hes about 55-60.  I think maybe another run or at the least appointing Johnson as the successor to him

He's one of a very small few whom I would even consider voting for over Obama in a 2012 GE matchup.

Paul/Johnson would've been a good libertarian ticket in 2004 or 2008.
