McCain (for Palin) - but would have voted for Hillary Clinton had she been the nominee

And you call Crist and Pawlenty liberals who you won't vote for? Joke poster.

It's called strategic voting. He doesn't want the Republicans to co-sign a big government agenda, and if that's the set of options, he'd rather just have the Democrats be the ones doing it. Not hard to understand.

Thank you for the defense.  That is exactly the point.  When a big government republican is president, republicans in congress will sign on to whatever agenda they put forth.  When a democrat is president - especially if Hillary Clinton became president, they know who to oppose.  It's more difficult with Obama because some in congress are worried they will be called racist if they oppose his policies.
Even Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins would be voting against Hillary - thats how much the republicans detest and loathe the Clintons.

Dad (1945- )

1972: Nixon
1976: Ford
1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Perot
1996: Clinton
2000: Gore
2004: Bush
2008: McCain

I'm not sure if he had a right to vote in 1972 since he became citizen roughly about that time, but he would have surely voted for Nixon. He was a huge Republican during the cold war like most people who immigrated from communist countries, moved to center in 1990s and then back to the right after 9/11. He's really a domestic moderate and foreign-policy hawk.

edit: yes, Nixon in 1972.

Mom (1949- )

None, at least in last 20 or so years. She really hates politics in general.

Me (1978- )

2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: McCain

Sister (1980- )

2000: Gore
2004: Kerry
2008: Obama

2000 was so funny because both sister and me were trying to persuade Dad who was undeceided all the way to the Election Day.

A little off topic but in 1992, I worked at Key Tronic in the Spokane Industrial Park and we wanted to see how people were voting there.  It came out about 2/3 Perot 1/3 Clinton and somebody admitted they were voting for Bush.

My Dad's parents were both raised as Chicago Democrats, but they switched over to the Republicans soon after they were married.  My Mom's Dad was a Republican.  Her Mom voted for Dewey in '48 and after feeling the disappointment of the stunning Truman upset, she never voted again, lol!

Mom and Dad, both Republicans, but voted for Anderson in '80 because they thought Reagan was an over-priviledged actor (now they think he's one of the greatest Presidents ever).

1976 Ford
1980 Anderson
1984 Reagan
1988 Bush
1992 Bush
1996 Dole
2000 Bush
2004 Bush
2008 McCain

My brother, a solid conservative Republican.

2004 Bush
2008 McCain

I was a registered independent from 2000-2008, before joining the Republican Party after the '08 elections.  I started out as a general conservative in the late '90s/early '00s, then became alienated and started heading leftward after the Iraq invasion before finally shifting towards civil libertarianism/paleoconservatism this year.

2000 Bush
2004 Bush
2008 McCain

Dad: Straight Republican since 1984. Sort of a David Brooks type RINO that mostly just cares about taxes, pretty much.

Mom: Since she moved here? Straight Republican since 1984. She regrets it though, she's always been closer to people like Paul or Buchanan than the 'mainstream' of the GOP anyway.

Sisters: Too young to vote, saw through both candidates last election.

Me: Pretty similar to my mom, minus the catholic perspective on certain issues.

My grandfather was a Republican even when the South was solid Democrat. My mother said she was a left leaning Democrat and supported Jimmy Carter. She switched during the Reagan years. My grandmother came from a prominent Democratic family and voted that way till she married my grandfather. My dad, I am not sure. His family immigrated from Greece in the 20s. He's been voting Republican for a while, but I'm not sure when it started. My voting record has been mixed, but mostly leaning toward the Republicans. I've voted for some Democrats locally and for Lt Governor of SC.

Dad: Born and raised in Atlanta, a mainstream democrat. Moderate on social issues, liberal on fiscal issues. Very partisan
1972: (R) Nixon- he said he thought McGovern was too "out there"
1976: (D) Carter- very excited, stood in line for 3 hours to vote for him
1980: (D) Carter
1984: (D) Mondale
1988: (D) Dukakis
1992: (D) Clinton- my younger brother was actually born on election day 1992, so he might not have had time to vote, but he did support Clinton
1996: (D) Clinton
2000: (D) Gore
2004: (D) Kerry
2008: (D) Obama

Dad's father: Born in north Georgia in 1918. He was a devout southern baptist, but also a yellow dog Democrat through and through. He even voted for McGovern in 1972
2008: He had reservations about Obama, but really liked Joe Biden. He died in January of 2009 after a lengthy time in the hospital. I think he would have broken for Obama eventually. He told me he only voted Republican once in his life- when his neighbor was running for congress as a republican. He said he didn't stand a chance so he figured one vote for him wouldn't hurt the democrat.

Mom- Grew up in Suburban areas of Atlanta and Cincinnati. She's not really that focused on politics, but she claims to be completely moderate
1976: (D) Carter- I think everyone in Georgia voted for Carter that year
1980: (R) Reagan
1984: (R) Reagan
1988: (R) Bush
1992: (R) Bush -she was kinda tied up giving birth that day, but I assume she supported Bush again
1996: (R) Dole
2000: (R) Bush
2004: (R) Bush- she claimed to be undecided until election day but finally broke for Bush
2008:(D) Obama- she became a special education public school teacher a few years prior and her new career made her more concerned with public school funding. I guess she trusted Obama more on this issue. We all thought this was an abrupt swing but we were happy, nonetheless.

Mom's mom: She was born in 1930 in Washington DC, the daughter of an italian mother and a german father. She moved to Atlanta as a teenager, met my grandfather who was an Irish Catholic New Yorker. She converted for him. Lives in the Atlanta suburbs.

1960: (D) Kennedy- JFK is still her favorite president to this day. She has a ton of Kennedy memorabilia and still cries when she talks about the day he was shot.
1964: (R) Goldwater- she voted against Johnson, but not for the reason you think. She was convinced Johnson was part of a conspiracy to assassinate JFK and she always despised him because of it
1968: (R) Nixon
1972: (R) Nixon
1976: (D) Carter- again, everyone in Georgia voted for him
1980: (R) Reagan- this is probably her second favorite president
1984: (R) Reagan
1988: (R) Bush
1992: (R) Bush
1996: (R) Dole
2000: (R) Bush
2004: (R) Bush
2008: (R) McCain- she and I got in many a fight about this election. She absolutely hates Obama and is convinced he is the sole reason for every problem in this country. I think it's a mix of pure politics and issues with his race and ethnic background.

My parents became citizens in 1998, and have voted Dem in every election.

My great aunt and uncle, who became citizens in the early 60s have voted for the dem in every election since 1964. They're about as liberal as you can get.

My parents have voted republican since the 80's. So has my whole extended family, with only my crazy Auntie ever defecting when she voted for Perot twice. My family's weird in that each branch represents a different kind of Republican: my father's side are all Southern Baptist fundies, my mothers side are all New England liberal Republicans, and my immediate family are the business/establishment group. But they're all Republican.

Me I don't think I ever voted for a democrat (though I would most likely vote for one if I lived in some parts of NYC) (except for when I only had a choice between a dem and a working families party)

and since other people were giving the there political test scores (which says much more about the test then me)
