Dad (this is interesting):
before 1984: Unknown, but I think he was pro-Nixon
1984: Reagan
1988: Unknown
1992: Perot
1996: Perot
2000: Gore
2004: Kerry
2008: No vote, hated both candidates but preferred McCain winning (Clinton in the primaries)
2012: No vote, hated both candidates but preferred Romney winning (Gingrich in the primaries)
2016: Trump
Mom (not very political):
Before 2000: Unknown
2000: Gore
2004: Kerry
2008: No vote
2012: No vote
2016: No vote
My dad's side of the family are German Texan southern Baptists (formerly Lutheran or Catholic) and have voted exclusively Republican since the 1930's. Not for ethnic reasons, but because they were wealthy. My dad is the only Independent. The only thing you can tell from the way he votes is that he votes against perceived candidates of elites... or he's a conservative who really hated the Bush family.
My mom's side of the family were from the SW Pennsylvania coal area, probably mostly of Scots-Irish descent, and have probably voted Democrat since FDR for civil liberties and active government. They were probably Republicans before then. Only one of my mother's 3 siblings voted for Trump.
