Again this bill was created for a simple reason, why should Atlasia, which is supposed to take the place of America, be dominated by European ideals.  The customary system is something that is unique to our beautiful country.

Not to mention the impracticality of replacing all customary measurements and making people in the 40+ age category learn a whole new system.

It would help Atlasians who travel to other countries to already be versed in the Metric system. At the least, section 3 of the original bill should definitely be retained.

I suspect this act has the potential to create quite a bit of economic chaos as the government has to buy products calibrated in the metric system, when many products produced in Atlasia are not so calibrated. Having said that, DWTL is the sole basis of your objection the fact that Europe uses the metric system?  If so, that seems a bit phobic doesn't it?

No, although I must say I am tired of this senate attitude of "Europe does it, we should to."  While the idea to continue forth with eliminating the customary system in favor of the metric system may sound great to some in principle, its practice is absurd.  To force people to learn a new system of which they are not accustomed is unfair, to force companies to retool all sorts of equipment and products is ridiculous.  The fact is that there is simply nothing wrong with the customary system and nothing overly beneficial of switching to the metric, however, there are certainly high negatives.

Downy's xenophobic rantings have actually cost his legislation my vote.

That has two possible responsible

1.) There is no way you would have voted for this
2.) That is sad if you would not vote for a bill because we doesn't reasons behind supporting it, especially when I made it quite clear that my reason for supporting it was the impracticality of the other measure and that the European comment was an explanation for why this atrocity came about in the first place

Wrong!

Actions have consequeces I'm afraid. You can't try to justify a bill with mindless (and inaccurate; have a look at the debate on F.L. 23-11 for God's sake...) xenophobic ranting, then be outraged as someone from the group you're ranting against decides not to support the bill because of your rantings.

The vote is on the motion to table.

God, maybe I should have read all threads before motioning to table on the One Strike You're Out thing... Is this the fallout from the Horse Takes up Regional Senate Seats hilarity? Is it going to stay like this long?

Abstain for now. Not that I like the idea behind the bill one jot, but...
