From today's Arizona Republic, news about a suprising as being told water is wet, or fire is hot:

McCain defeated in home precinct
by Mary Jo Pitzl and Scott Wong - Nov. 16, 2008 12:00 AM
The Arizona Republic

John McCain may have won Arizona by nine points over Barack Obama, but he lost his home precinct. Election data from Maricopa County shows that the state's very own presidential nominee lost to Obama by 13 points in McCain's Colonnade precinct: 42 percent for McCain, 55 percent for Obama.

Didn't Bush lose his precinct in 2004, too?

It's always interesting to see how those who see the candidates the most vote. DC naturally is landslide Democratic.

Because DC wouldn't vote nearly as hardcore democratic if the Capitol wasn't there.

In Crawford? It's possible I suppose, never heard it before though. He certainly lost his hometown newspaper endorsement (which he got in 2000.) And of course he's in the only delayomander-targetted seat that Republicans couldn't steal. OMG it's all Bush's fault! Cheesy

Did any precinct vote *unanimously* for one candidate, or at least having the other main candidate get zero votes?

The five voters in Pinkham's Grant, NH, voted unanimously for Obama. Also, the lone voter in Green's Grant voted for Obama, so he got 100% there too.

There were several Chicago precincts that went 100% for Obama. And not even small ones - these had several hundred voters in them.

Is being from the precinct really supposed to bend the area towards one candidate?

Does every city in NH adhere to this possessor-noun nomenclature?  I certainly hope so.

There was at least one precinct in Memphis with no McCain votes.  On average, McCain got around 1% of the vote in precincts with 70%+ black registration.

Ignoring tiny precincts (say below 100 votes), I know there were some in Chi but none in DC. And none in Hawai'i either. I've seen smalltown Louisiana precincts with McCain below 1% (guess which side of the railroad tracks... actually, as I've never seen Louisiana precinct maps, I'm just guessing as well Grin ), but none with no votes for him at all.

While this is a purely trivia and useless piece of info, it did get me thinking: Who previously was the last major party candidate to lose their home precinct? Even McGovern most likely did, he did win his home county. Stevenson maybe?

Amusingly FDR might've all four times. He never won his home county either.
