Should it be amended to be called "Civil Rights Day?" Wink

In that case, we might want to change it to February 3rd. That was the day that ratification of the 15th amendment to the U.S. Constitution was completed.

Vote count:

Aye 5 (Lewis, Jas, PiT, Sensei, Al)
Nay 2 (Happy, Dwtl)
yet to vote 3 (Torie, Bacon, Andrew)

EDIT: Actually, as Bacon hasn't sworn in yet, the amendment has been passed.

So, Dwtl. Want to introduce an amendment to reword that section 3 so that it introduces a new holiday called Civil Rights Day instead?

Yes and I also would like the date changed to February 3rd to commenerate the passing of the 15th amendment

So here it is officially to state:
To replace Section 3 with the following:
The date of February 3rd shall hereforth be a national holiday referred to as "Civil Rights Day"

Interesting idea.  Do any senators have thoughts on it?

The XVth Amendment is not related to the modern Civil Rights movement and was not a Black achievement. Therefore, while I understand and even share the reasoning behind not wanting to single out MLK like he and Malcolm X and Booker Washington were the only relevant Blacks that ever lived on US soil, I must oppose this amendment.
This being Atlasia and not America, maybe we could keep the MLK date but call it Demrepdan Day. After all, he was the only relevant Black ever active in Atlasia. Grin (Unless I'm forgetting somebody, in which case I apologize.)
