Azeri Shield Act

1.  The proposed missle defense shield plans for Eastern Europe will hereafter be scrapped.

2.  Instead a shield, previously proposed as a joint project between Russia and America, will be set up in Qalaba, Azerbaijan.

3.  The Azerbaijani radar station will first need to be inspected by American inspectors and defects will need to be repaired or upgraded.  If costs exceed benefits the project may be scrapped at a later date.

4.  All actions will be taken in conjunction with both the Azerbaijani and Russian governments.

If Sections 2, 3, and 4 were eliminated, I could go for this. I ask that a senate propose an amendment to scrap sections 2, 3, and 4.

I don't have any strong feelings here, so I'll go ahead & propose an amendment to strike sections 2, 3, & 4.

The vote is on the motion to table. (The amendment may go to a vote after that.)

Nay.

To explain what I meant here... at what stage was Bush's insane reprise of Star Wars when Atlasia began (I have no idea)? Had the plan been amended to put the unworkable crap in Eastern Europe rather than America already? Has there been any action by Atlasian Presidents or Senates since (I think no, but I'm not sure)? In other words, do the plans mentioned in Section 1 exist in the game?

As to the merits of the plan... if the shield were built in conjunction with Russia and China, it would cease to be one of the crassest and most pointless aggressive armament campaigns ever, but it would remain a crass and most wasteful subsidy to American defense contractors.

In other words, if I am told by the Moderator that the plan exists, I will be ready both to vote aye on PiT's amendment, and to vote aye on the bill whether the amendment passes or not.

Yeah, I just noticed that error too.

It was given correctly on the Noticeboard, though. Smiley

Vote count:

Aye 3 (PiT, Dwtl, Torie)
Nay 2 (Lewis, Happy. Sorry Happy, your vote only counts once no matter how often you post it. Smiley )
Abstain (voted) 1 (Jas)
yet to vote 3 (Andrew, Sensei, Al)
absent 1 (Bacon, who hasn't sworn in yet)

A two-thirds majority being impossible at this point, the motion to table has failed.

Vote count:

Aye 3 (PiT, Dwtl, Torie)
Nay 3 (Lewis, Happy, Al)
Abstain (voted) 1 (Jas)
did not vote 2 (Andrew, Sensei)
absent 1 (Bacon, who hasn't sworn in yet)

The vote is on the amendment:

I'll go ahead & propose an amendment to strike sections 2, 3, & 4.

Aye.

Despite the fact that SoEA is incompetent, I think this bill still is horrendous, so to make it a little better:

Aye

How about End to the Eastern European Defense Shield Act? It's clunky, but it describes the effect of the bill. Smiley

Atlasia has full restrictions on Azerbaijan.

I fully support the amendment to strike all sections but section one.

This amendment has passed.

Vote count:

Aye 5 (Lewis, Dwtl, PiT, Al, Bacon)
Nay 0
abstain (voted) 1 (Happy)
did not vote 4 (Jas, Torie, Sensei, Andrew)

I'm proposing an amendment to change the title to End to Eastern European Defense Shield Act (I would prefer to get some insults in, actually, but I decided to go with the rl media-approved spin title. No point in being divisive.) and to correct the spelling of "missile".
Offered as friendly.
