I'll be prepared to donate cash (and lots of it) to the GOP candidate if Matthews wins the nomination, given the GOP candidate has a chance according to polls.

Matthews is a blowhard, but why the hate?

He's certainly more moderate than a lot of Democrats currently in Congress, why the hate?  I mean, he's a bit of a joke, but not like, an epic one.

He'd be kind of like Al Franken, except a bit better.  That's not saying much as Franken is an absolutely horrible joke of a human being.  Well, maybe not, but he'd be embarrassing in the senate, along with Matthews.

Specter still being up 3 and only getting 70% of Republicans is the more interesting statistic, fyi.

That poll makes perfect sense to me. Matthews leans liberal and so does Pennsylvania.

He voted for Bush in 2000 when a lot of people did who could not "predict the future" as he put it. He has railed against Bush the last 4 years.

He lost the Congressional race when he had no name recognition beyond a book which most people had not heard of.

Jesse Ventura won by forgoing any hint of BS and being straight up and honest about everything. That's what Matthews will do.

I don't know if he'll win. But he's not some joke candidate. I wonder how many of you actually watch the show.

Well, he's also getting 32% of Democrats. Not that this poll means anything since it's December 2008

His show is a joke show.  I do know that.

It's not.

Consider that a good portion of the Scooter Libby trial revolved around Cheney's obsession with Hardball's reporting against him.

So now you're quoting a joke case in order to prove Hardball's net worth as a non-joke show.  Ok...

LOL @ that poll.

Seriously, Specter would have some issues with his age/health but he'd end up with a comfortable victory over Matthews.

I reject your premise. Explain to me how you conclude that was a "joke case." All mainstream media outlets covered it in detail. The President found it significant enough to issue a commutation outside of the normal pardon process, which he has followed in all other such cases.

Moreover, you missed the point. If Hardball is a joke show, why was Cheney obsessed with what they were saying about him?

Good news for Specter from that Rasmussen poll - 68% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of him. Sure it should be higher for a Republican Senator but that rating surely isn't weak. The problem for him is that only 70% of Republicans said they'd vote for him in the General.
