Yes. This nonsense is so blatantly stupid I laugh out loud every time I read it. Seriously.

West VA, there will be so many Hillary protests votes there, that it won't be even funny.

There were 407 write-ins in WV.

I've seen far worse and Wyoming acted kind of unexpectedly during 2008.

Besides, screwing up Wyoming and assuming West Virginia would act like Arkansas actually did isn't a cardinal sin.

McCain got over 65% in Arkansas? McCain did better in Arkansas than he did in Idaho or Utah? (Granted that's from another thread but still, idiotic.)

This thread may be slightly less stupid, but it sure has some funnier predictions.

Alcon gets a lot of crap, but I've yet to see him be wrong whenever he does. Well except for when he predicted Hillary would win Minnesota.

well, around this time the Economist had California and Kansas tagged as swing states! Still, I think in a 2000 or 2004 type environment, McCain would definitely have done better than Bush in California, it's just that the mortgage crisis, the economic meltdown, and the immigration flap killed him there. Also, during March and April there was a lot of nonsense emanating from the Clinton campaign and it's allies about how Hispanics wouldn't vote for a black man.

no, the dumbest comments were things like how there would be a six point nationwide Bradley Effect or how 85% of undecideds would break for McCain.

I should probably add a caveat that I mean " comments not made by J. J."

Kanawha County is the only WV county where Dave has write-in stats.  Write-ins got 0.50% there, compared to 0.73% in the state of Oregon.  Not much evidence of major protest-age.

Other than f'ing up the Minnesota caucus/primary thing (which BRTD will never let me forget Wink) I'm pretty happy with my predictions earlier this year.  Final ones...ehhhhh...

If I got the Cali thread, Sam owned the WY/WV one, though.  And he did it with a lot less effort.

All he did though was state common sense.

yeahh, but at least he said it outright.

I was caught up in the Primary Fever and said "for now."  I never seriously entertained the chance of West Virginia being more Republican, but I didn't have the balls not to add a modifier (for some reason)

I remember that Mike Naso said McCain would win West Virginia by "at least" 30 points.

Well, that was basically his reason for why Ohio was such a safe McCain state, so take it from there...

It should have been obvious to anyone who talks to latinos that they weren't about to vote republican this year. Turnout could be low( and I do believe it was relatively speaking) but they wouldn't vote republican.

Yes, one of them made by myself.

Like others, I underestimated the role that the economy would play in the end stages of the campaign. I also overestimated Obama's appeal in some parts of the Rocky Mountain region.

(Wipes egg of off face)...

Meh, I would probably have sounded much like Alcon. Or maybe in between Alcon or Spade.

Here's the annoying bit though: I never had any of the "McCain by 65 points in Appalachia" coolaid. But I thought Wyoming would swing as much as Montana or at least as Utah. Wyoming's probably the state where Obama underperformed by most compared to my final predictions.

actually, come to think of it coal mining is a pretty big industry in Wyoming. That could partly explain the lack of swing to Obama. Also, I'd imagine it's a state where "Drill Baby Drill!!!" would play well.

Coal mining is not a big industry in Wyoming, even though coal extraction is.

Natural gas production has definitely accelerated in the past year or so however, and regardless of employment patterns energy production is still huge here.

When I said that, I mean protest votes for McCain.  When you look at the results, and the margin McCain won by in West Virginia, it doesn't look that unreasonable.

Hillary would have probably won WV anyway.

Look at the details. Always, always, always look at the details.
