Obama loses but refuses to concede. Instead he calls upon his supporters to not recognize McCain and overthrow the government by force to install him. He becomes the leader of a national guerrilla movement.

How many of his supporters back him still? How many become suicide bombers? What's the outcome?

Hey this would make a great movie.

If he lost Florida style and it was perceived "stolen" and was filled with race-baiting, Obama could destroy a few dozen cities' downtowns and set back the country fifty years racially before the army kills some significant percentage of African-American males and the riot quiets.

I don't think that movie would be very un-racist no matter what you did with it.

Are you familiar with the science fiction epic "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes?" Well, replace the Apes in that movie with pissed off college students and blacks (probably some Hispanics as well), and you'd get that.

Virtually nothing, people will just think Obama has gone insane. You will just get a few smashed cars and shop windows and that would probably be it.

If the election was clearly stolen, perhaps some heavy sh!t would go down but nothing would happen otherwise. Plus, Obama is totally not the type of guy to pull something like this. I understand that it's a "what-if" but come on...

Obama and the rioters are arrested for treason.

President McCain has the Justice Department launch an investigation.

Obama and the conspirators go on trial.

Justice must be done, otherwise, lawlesness would reign.

It'd be civil war, and I'd be a Union man - time to recreate Sherman's march!

('Union', that is, with regards to the rightful President, Obama, provided it was stolen from him, as against the Southern reactionaries.)

Would Bill Ayers have become Barack Obama's military commander, while Obama would have remained the overall civilian leader of the movement??

This scenario is borderline impossible but in the event of it happening it'd be open civil war. Any americans with the means to leave do so. We're talking it gets to the point where we see Mint is in Bogota, BRTD is in Helsinki, Everett in Tokyo, Phil in Naples, myself joining killerpollo in Chihuahua, Xahar in Dhaka and The likes of blubb/duke/StatesRights going to South Africa.

Such a new civil war scenario is IMO one of the VERY few cases where we could see the dreams of the Aztlanistas happen; basically the southwest, tired of an inconclusive civil war offers it's alleigance to The D.F. instead of D.C. in return for Mexico city's government adopting US-style federalism and giving it's states more autonomy than now(they have rights, just less than US states).

Remember that it's 2008 and not 1988. Why would any of those guys move to a country where whites are a minority and which is ruled by black socialists (and I'm talking about actual socialists)?

Joining a boer commune on the veldt and forgetting about the rest of the world. Chile is another destination of american cons.

Very likely.

Why do people think there'd just be a few riots? I think we'd see something on the level of Sendero Luminoso!

Also why does Straha think I'd flee? I'd be one of Obama's rebels.

I see fleeing as the most likely because you're a soft liberal but if you don't flee odds are you die valiently on battle trying to take kansas from McCain's camp.

This would make a great timeline. I'd write it but I'm going to a party soon. Might start tomorrow.

If Obama lost due to obvious electoral shenanigans and a McCain campaign that focused heavily on race baiting, you bet there would be riots. The country would plunge into anarchy for weeks and hundreds would be dead. The army would eventually restore order, but there would be actual street fighting in US cities. Obviously not Stalingrad or Grozny, but something worse than the Watts Riots in the 60s.

But seriously, you do NOT want a guerilla war in your country. Go through your family photo album and X out every tenth face at random. THAT's what happens in a guerilla war. Few heroics, not much glory, just lots of terrorism, reprisals, collective punishment, and torture.
