Obama would have.  Rudy really damaged himself here with his campaign run and turned off many people who use to be supporters of his.  McCain did quite a bit better than I thought he would have done,  and I don't think that many people who didn't vote for McCain would have voted for Rudy.  It would have been a bit closer than McCain, but he still would not have won.  Any other Republican (Romney, Thompson and especially Huckabee) would have been completley blown out here.

Absolutely not. As Smash said, it would have been a bit closer, but Obama would have won.

Well, are we assuming Rudy Gmac - the social liberal who couldn't ever win a prolonged Republican primary or Rudy Gmiracle - the guy who defied the Gods and won the primary despite being socially liberal?

Probably. Not that it would have done him much good.

^^^^^^^^  Presuming of course, we mean Nassau and Suffolk and not those NYC/Long Island counties, of course..

Also, while Rudy would have done better in some areas than McCain, I don't think he would have done as well as McCain did in some of the heavily Jewish areas of Long Island (Great Neck, Plainview, Syosset, etc).  Obama won these areas pretty solidly, but McCain did well for a Republican in these areas, and I don't think Rudy would have been able to do as well as McCain with the Jewish vote on LI.  Rudy is more socially liberal, but being more pro-war than McCain would have hurt him.

Rudy would have lost NY but would have gotten about 42.234% of the vote.

Its definately possible, Obama definately underperformed in Nassau and Long Island considering he won by 7 points nationally and only won by 8 in Nassau and 6 in Long Island. Was surprised to see those countries trend Republican.
