Anybody play any of the mods?  I'm in love with the Rise of Mankind 2 (must have BTS exp).  The F3 screen is freggin awesome(totally revamped), the tech tree is a million times better than stock.  One sucky thing (other than the fact that it's hard as hell) is that you can only "create" one religion.  It forces the spread of different religions instead of always just coming up with 2 or 3 main ones.  I still force Buddhism down everybody's throat, often at the tip of a shortsword.

If you've just got the Warlords exp, Total Realism kicks ass.  At least it did a year ago.  Excellent tech tree.

I mainly do the standard Earth maps with all the civs in their proper location.  I'm normally Germany or Rome.  Those Praetorians are nice, although toned down a lot in the mod I play (because Iron is much further down the tech tree, it's after Monarchy).  I'm mildly aggressive militarily, especially if I get a head a little on the tech tree.  I blow up around the time gunpowder and ocean ships come around and just start kicking everybody's ass.  It's good to wait a bit, if you attack to early you have to build TONS of settlers to fill in the gaps.  If you wait until 500BC, the Russians, Persians, Chinese and Mongals have all the good locations taken with fairly large cities and if you time it right, can be easy pick'ns.  It's fun to roll across Asia with Knights, spreading Democracy, the Free Market and Buddhism to the heathens.

I played Civ Gold for years.  Right now I am playing the History in the Making Mod, which seems pretty good.  It adds a few civs, Zoroastrianism as a religious option, reorders the tech tree to make it truer to life and adds some resources, like coffee, tea, etc.

I love civ 4. I usually am pretty aggressive, though also I have about 3-4 cities that are almost completely devoted to wonder-building and the like. Usually by the time gunpowder comes around I have one or two vassals and control a significant amount of area.

All I need on a late Saturday night is some leftovers, porn, and Civ4. I wish there was a running clock of total time played, cause I've definitely played over a month and perhaps quite a few. Won at least one game with every leader...all 52 of them. Currently able to beat Monarch level, trying to move up to Emperor, but it's frustrating because the AI begins to get extreme bonuses that feel blatantly unfair.

Thing I like about it is that even if there are some things that are routine - Montezuma, Tokugawa, and Isabella being nutjobs for example - each game has different dynamics that force you to pursue different strategies every single time. Found your first city right next to copper? Axe rush. No horses for your powerful Keshik or Immortal unique unit? Pursue a peaceful economy-based game or use Axemen to acquire needed resource. Have the bad luck of starting isolated on your own island? Beeline for Optics and hope your economy doesn't fall too far behind before then. Great stuff...

I played this constantly over spring break. I mostly dicked around with Rhye's And Fall of Civilizations though.

Rhyes is nice.  I'm still playing the Rise of Mankind mod.

I just built a kickass new rig for the wife (triple core AMD, 4gig ram, ATI 4850) and I'm still getting the CrashToDesktop issues on the big maps late in the game.  Apparently I need a 64bit OS, but I want to wait for Windows 7.

I need to play this game more but I am still rusty considering I haven't played this much since I was in 6th grade.

I love this game.

The Rhys and Fall mod is hard, because I keep building vast empires which shatter to pieces.

Amazing game. Rhye's is a great mod- stability is an excellent addition. I'm generally a non-war player- cultural all the way.
