Al Gore wins in 2000.

The Republican nominee in 2004 is John McCain.

Gore defeats McCain in 2004.

Under this scenario

1.  Who is the Democratic Presidential nominee in 2008?

2.  Who is the Republican Presidential nominee in 2008?

The economy still tanks during the 2008 campaign, and the war is still going on in Afghanistan.  Gore did not go into Iraq.

Who wins the 2008 election?

Gore's VP would be an important consideration here. Also, does Gore pick Obama to give the keynote at the '04 convention?

Surely Hillary doesn't run. It's hard to figure out which Democrat would run. You would probably see Biden and Edwards in there. With the economy Edwards would probably get the nomination. There would be a divide between the compassionate Edwards and corporate Romney.
