New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson withdraws his nomination for Commerce Secretary, citing pending investigation of his business dealings.

In keeping with his Team of Rivals theme, President Elect Obama should replace Richardson with Mitt Romney, who is eminently qualified for this job, providing Romney agrees not to seek the Presidency in 2012.

Please discuss.

Could be, but you would have to remove the "Romney" from your screen name.

If Obama picks Romney, I will gladly change my screen name.

But I still contend that Mitt Romney is supremely qualified for the position of Commerce Secretary.

Mitt Romney isn't qualified to be a dog catcher.

Romney is technically qualified, but I don't think the Obama administration would want to pick someone who may run against him in 2012.

But my provision is that Romney agrees not to run for President in 2012.

Oh yeah, clearly Obama needs a hard-right cabinet instead of a center-right one.

I missed that sorry. It is slightly more plausible, but Obama will probably find some Democratic politician or a non partisan to fill the spot. Mainly because picking Romney would piss off the Democratic establishment.

Not sure about replacing him with Romney, although Romney would arguably be the most qualified Republican of national stature for Federal office with private sector experience....

I'm sure there are plenty of candidates for Commerce Secretary from both parties that could provide an acceptable replacement (although most likely not Latino)...

WASHINGTON, DC-- Sources close to President-Elect Obama, who have requested to stay anonymous, tell CNN that Obama met with Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts and candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 2008, today in Washington. The sources said that the meeting was related to the recent decision by Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico, to withdraw his name from consideration as Secretary of Commerce. Governor Richardson is currently involved in a pending investigation by the FBI.

The biggest risk for Obama is that Romney is set up brilliantly for 2012 as "cleaning up a dirty house."

Then again, if anyone can pull this off, it's probably Obama & Co.

Yes, but Obama would never fire Romney. He's never gonna give him up.

Nor let him down.

Yes, but Obama would never be able to fire Romney. He's never gonna give him up.

Bravo, sir, bravo. (Both for your realization and response to it) Wink

The biggest risk for Obama is that it destroys his facade of being a non right-winger.

I don't know. Mitt Romney is pretty skilled when it comes to abusing dogs.

LOL that this crazy idea is actually now backed up by news articles.

I think it'd be great. It's not like the commerce secretary does anything, of course.
