Bandit--

That was only on one person's test that Kerry matched up that well with Bush...look at everybody else's results, and you see that they were much farther apart.

Bush 100%(Wow!!!! Who would have gusssed!)
Edwards 57%(Makes sense he's the Democrat I like the most out of this field)
Kerry 56%(How the heck did he get that many points?)
Dean 43%(Okay kind of makes sense... I suppose)
Sharpton 34%(Too close for comfort lol)
Kucinich 25%(Again too close for comfort)

Kucinich 100%
Sharpton 92%
Dean 83%
Kerry 83%
Edwards 80%
Bush 13%

Clearly it gives your top candidate 100% and makes everyone else a fraction of that.

Interesting that a number of Edwards supporters on this board are ending up with him fairly low on their lists.  I think Kerry ended up slightly higher on mine because I'm more pro-gay rights than Edwards.  But they don't seem to list some of the issues where Edwards is more progressive, like increasing the capital gains tax.

With mostly Dems voting (but six Reps), averages so far

Candidate (thread average) (Reps av, Dems av, Ind av)

Kerry      (79) (Reps 48, Dems 96, Ind 85)
Kucinich  (75) (Reps 22, Dems 97, Ind 76)
Edwards (74) (Reps 47, Dems 89, Ind 80)
Dean       (70) (Reps 38, Dems 88)
Sharpton (70) (Reps 30, Dems 93, Ind 72)
Bush        (56) (Reps 100, Dems 27, Ind 36)

Clearly Kucinich is the most polarizing figure, with a 75% difference between self-identified members of the two parties, closely followed by Bush, with a 73% spread. Edwards was the least polarizing figure with only a 42% spread.

The most surprising result is that Kerry got an average of 48 among Republicans-- he's supposed to be this liberal.

The weighted averages (giving equal right to aggregate Republican & Democratic choices)

Kerry         72
Edwards   68
Bush         64
Dean        63
Sharpton  62
Kucinich    60

Drumroll, please! And the results are in!

Bush 100% (Yay!)

Edward 75%

Kerry 72%

Dean 54% (This makes me want to vomit)

Kucinich 47% (Whee! I'ma Vulcan!)

I am against free trade, I believe NAFTA is one of the worst things that America got itself involved in.

I'm no fan of Bill Clinton in general, but that man understood trade policy.  If there is any one reason for the massive economic growth of the 1990s it is NAFTA and free trade.  Yes, some jobs have been lost, but so many more have been gained from free trade.  We have been insourcing high paying jobs at a much faster rate then we've been losing them.  This is a healthy and necessary part of our economy.

And what would propose instead of free trade and NAFTA?  Would you advocate a return to Smoot-Hawley protectionism and economic disaster?  Would you be willing to punish the poor in this country by raising prices on every manufactured good there is to purchase in this country?

The answer to outsourcing (which is a much overstated problem) is not to cancel NAFTA, but rather to end some of the ridiculous regulations that various tentacles of government have placed on business so that they can compete with Chinese, Mexican, and Indian business.  We need a federal right to work law.  We should end industry wide unionization.  We should lower the minimum wage.  We should repeal the payroll tax.  We should also change our immigration policies from favoring family reunification to favoring professional expertise.  We should bring in more Indian, Chinese, and Mexican professionals to work for American companies.

I firmly believe that NAFTA is the best economic policy that has come out of any administration since Reagan cut taxes.  I also think that by lowing prices here and raising wages abroad, free trade manages to raise living standards in both countries engaged in free trade.

Just a quick question ... why are people angered to discover that they hold some of the same views as candidates they dislike?

Maybe the lesson here is that as individuals we should more closely examine what each candidate stands for instead of letting the mass media and our respective parties tell us what to think about them.

In my case I was joking. The Reason Kooky Kucinich got 25% is because of his stance on abortion and gun control. Other then that I disagree with him about everything.

Edwards 100%
Kerry 100%
Dean 90%
Kucinich 90%
Bush 21%

Now I don't know how that works, 100% for Edwards and Kerry??? The guys are pretty darn different

That's the thing - I don't see any difference between them at all.

Kerry's voing record is about 20% more liberal than Edwards' on social and foreign issues, and 30% more liberal on economic issues.  So maybe you are just blind as a bat.

Seems like every liberal gets a 100% on Kucinich. I didn't... Smiley I did this test before on another thread. I got Kerry highest, closely followed by Edwards, and Bush surprisingly low, at 35% or something.

I find my list to be pretty funny.

I think sharpton is hilarious, but tied with kerry for my vote, i thought sharpton was too liberal for me, but ...

kerry           100%
sharpton     100%
kucinich       96%
dean            94%
edwards      86%
bush            16%

I'm not sure why my bush rating is so high, i remember taking this sort of test in 2000, and my bush number was lower then, and i have moved from casually dislike for him, to full blown disgust in the ensuing 4 years.

All i can say is sorry to poor al sharpton, he won't be getting my vote even though he has 100%, John Kerry for me.

Seriously angus what did you get on bush? How does a Blue state guy get a 100% for perhaps the most liberal democrat of all (kucinich probably beats him, by a little).

But then again you probably just put the opposite answers of your beliefs to find the most odious candidate, right?

Well, let me preface my answer by flaming the test.  Notice how topics were weirdly grouped at the end?  You couldn't separate Crime&Education, or Industry/Security and such.  And on a couple I had to leave it in the middle because none really applied.  But as long as everyone is sharing, the answer is 29.

ouch.

I think he was joking...

On his previous signature he listed off a long string of issues where he agrees with liberals, and I dont know much about Sharpton but if Sharpton was an economic moderate, it's very plausible. People tend to get higher percentages on these fringe left-wing candidates than they previously imagined. Mostly because they're viewed as fringe candidates off hand without the person examining the actual positions.

No no no.  Bush is a liberal.  I am a serious conservative.  You yanking my chain again beet?

I am an anti-capital punishment republican.  And my pet peeve is imperialism.  That's not liberal.
