This isn't uncommon, a lot of them do it.

And lost miserably.

Yes, a lot of them do it because it costs cash money to get a place in D.C. and have a family place back home. I have heard that Schumer and 2 other senators share a place. Who wants to spend the money?

Good for him.  Decent places in D.C. can be really expensive.

I know Schumer and Durbin are roommates; don't know if anyone else lives with them.

I wouldn't mind some plans to create optional dorms for all of our congressmen, that combine with their offices perhaps.

Exactly as the article says, it would allow them more time to communicate with their residents/do other things.

Also, if you gave them living quarters then you wouldn't need their wages to be so high because you wouldn't need to cover cost-of-living expenses near the capitol

That thought crossed my mind a few years ago; still sounds like a good idea to me. And if they aren't being used by Congressmen at the time then they can house homeless or low income families.

Just make flats in the DC projects available to them, at normal rent.
Problem solved.

That's probably not such a good idea.  I'm guessing that that would be a security nightmare.

EDIT: But the dorms for Congressmen idea was a great idea.

Chaffetz is already working on one of his main campaign pledges-Balance the budget. He's got all of you thinking of ways to reduce spending. This guy is going to be a great congressmen. Though some of you will feel the same way about him as you do Micheal Bachmann once Immigration comes up again. Didn't this guy support Dukakis in 1988?

That sounds like fun actually... but I wonder where he puts his (dirty) clothes.

And Miller's house looks so nice.

I had no idea Durbin and Schumer were roommates.  I guess one of them will have to move out if Reid step down from Majority Leader and they both want his position.

Am I the only one who thought of George Costanza in the episode where he had a contractor renovate his desk so he could store an alarm clock and other sleeping items? Tongue

I remember CNN or some network running a story on that. It's possibly the most annoying roommate team in all of DC. Imagine if they both decide to run for Majority leader one day. That apartment will get pretty nasty.
