Rasmussen polls CA- Whitman 37%, Newsom 34%

This is too early to be making any predictions but it does gives us some insight. One Whitman is much more popular then I thought. She is also more known than I would have guessed and while she is the lowest in that it is still higher than I thought. I would have thought that Brown would lead her by 20 instead he only leads by 2. I think I can gather that A. Californians are pissed off, B. They want someone new. Its up to Whitman, if she gets in, to sell herself to the people and get half that 35% that does not know here to support her. I would like to see polling for Poizner and some other Dems like Sanchez.

Yeah, this won't hurt her, especially in California where there's already a significant Asian population. After all, the point is to recruit Asians who came to America to study science and engineering in the first place. Might as well have them work here rather than just study here then go back to their home country and work. The way to get Americans in these fields is to invest in science education in public schools, not block immigrants from coming to work here.

But when immigrants come here, they tighten the labor market and disincentive American students from studying science and engineering because the American students realize they will be competing with Asians and others from all other the world, whereas if they go into something like law, they don't have to. 500,000 jobs is a lot. California citizen Asians should feel the same way, as they are in the same boat as other Americans.

Also, they really should go back to their home country and work. When Asian countries are a little more prosperous, perhaps they'll be able to consume some of their own produce and actually--shock import more from the United States. That is the only hope of correcting the imbalances in the global economy.

Damn straight. Lawyers get to control who work in their field, so naturally they exclude people they don't want. We need to have H-1Bs for lawyers and get rid of the bullsh**t that an expensive law degree is required for some weed out bar exam just so that you can practice. Then the lawyers will eliminate H-1Bs in no time. Lawyers are all about protecting their profession while screwing others over.

Hey, I agree with you it will depress wages. The reason this is an immigration issues is b/c thats how the Dems are framing it so they can justify voting for it. If it were a labor issue they would lose votes in them midwest. So they attach it to things like Amnesty and and the E-verify reauthorization. The two HP's who keep pushing this are Zoe Lofgen(D-CA) and Charles Boustany(R-LA). Whats so surprising is that the Dems have abandoned the unions on the Immigration and are hoping they can pass the Employee Forced Choice act to prevent them from getting angry.

Whitman is wrong on this issue but she is running for Governor not Senate so I am not worried about it. It would proabably help win votes of Asians maybe Hispanics.
