There are seven states with but one Congressional District, meaning that the candidates running for these states' house seat are running statewide races. Here are some maps from this year, many differing greatly from other statewide races within the same state. AK is not included.

Delaware: Mike Castle (R) 61%, Karen Hartley-Nagle (D) 38%

Montana: Denny Renberg (R) 64%, John Driscoll (D) 32%

North Dakota: Earl Pomeroy (D) 62%, Duane Sand (R) 38%

South Dakota: Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin (D) 68%, Chris Lien (R) 32%

Vermont: Peter Welch (D) 83%, Others* (I) 17%

Wyoming: Cynthia Lummis (R) 53%, Gary Trauner (D) 43%

*Others (I) of Vermont includes Mike Bethel (Ind) 5%, Jerry Trudell (Energy Independence) 4%, Thomas Hermann (Prog) 3%, Cris Ericson (Marijuana) 3%, and Jane Newton (Lib. Union) 2%

That "Delaware" district is suspicious.

That Peter Welch is looking vulnurable, I'm keeping my eye on him in 2010.

I love that Vermont has an "Energy Independent" candidate, a "Marijuana party" candidate and one from the "Liberal Union", but no Republican...

Don't forget about the Progressive Party candidate. Vermont is just a win state.

It's "Liberty Union". They're socialists.

Didn't the Republicans nominate Welch as well?

Yes, so I suppose you could say that the GOP picked up the Vermont seat as well. Tongue

Isn't it interesting how the least gerrymandered districts possible are also among the least competitive?  I mean, obviously smaller sized states are conducive to certain demographics and blah blah, but it's disappointing.

Wyoming was supposed to be competitive this time around too but didn't even end up being close

Is anyone surprised by Trauner winning Sweetwater county by 6 points?
