If Murphy wins, there will be coverage.  If Tedisco wins, there will not.

what will RowanBrandon say if the Democrat wins here, considering Murphy was ahead on election night?

Was it still rigged?

This isn't a recount. These are votes still needing to be counted. If Murphy's up when these ballots are counted than so be it.

Now you're contradicting yourself.

You were complaining that Coleman's lead went down from 700 to 200 or something like that between election night and the begin of the recount, implying that such changes were not normal.

Now what if Tedisco jumps into the lead before the count is over? How is that different?

UH OH, Murphy's lead has shrunk since election day from 65 to 25.  Someone must have STOLEN THE ELECTION

And now from 25 to 13. I think it'll end up going to Tedisco Sad

This one is going to be a squeaker, but the odds are definitely against a tie.

A tie would be awesome, though sadly unlikely. Tongue

Governor Paterson's handling of a tie would be funny.

This was said a few pages back, but an exact tie in this race would be a pretty funny situation.

That's counting that it doesn't turn into Minnesota-sen 2.0

What are the election laws like in New York regarding challenges? Hopefully they don't allow endless appeals well beyond inauguration day like Minnesota does.

Imagine if the Presidency was like that. Gore could've just kept the Florida results held up in court forever and kept the White House vacant. Smiley Obviously anyone who supports Coleman's challenge now would've supported this as well.
The difference is that the US President is not elected by the voters. He is elected by the Electors. While it would have been only sane and proper to just deny Florida its electors entirely, as was done in comparable circumstances in 1872 (but not since), the remedy of seating the leader provisionally (which would be sane and proper here but isn't allowed by MN state law) was just not available for the selection of Electors.

If Florida was denied its electors, wouldn't that have taken the election to the House with the electoral votes standing at 267 (or 266 if one still didn't vote) for Gore to 246 for Bush? And presumably Bush would've still won because the GOP had the house majority, after the 2000 election. The senate was 50/50, after the 2000 election, with Vice-president Gore as the 51st Democratic vote, so Lieberman would've (presumably) been made the Vice-president to Bush.

Huh?

COLUMBIA COUNTY — 20th Congressional District candidate Republican Jim Tedisco submitted a petition to the Dutchess County Supreme Court Thursday asking the judge to declare him the winner of the extremely close special election race, despite the numbers currently being in favor of his opponent, Democrat Scott Murphy.

According to The Associated Press, Murphy leads Tedisco by 178 votes district wide — 79,452 to 79,274. The only ballots that have not been counted are those challenged by each candidate’s lawyers, and while Tedisco’s office has said the challenges are roughly evenly split between the two camps, Columbia County lawyers for Murphy have only challenged 22 ballots, while Tedisco’s have challenged 258.

Tedisco is also asking the court to authorize recanvasing of all machine ballots to acquire the “proper” tallies. He would like them to reassess the validity of absentee votes already counted, and keep ballots challenged by Tedisco unopened. County Board of Elections Democratic Commissioner Virginia Martin said this new development could result in the election taking quite a bit more time to be decided. She would not venture a guess on how long it will be before the 20th District has a representative in congress.

Assemblyman, you're no Norm Coleman.

One could argue that no Presidential candidate should ever concede until the Electoral College votes and the votes are counted.

You can always withdraw your concession if something unexpected happens... it's been done before.

Gore took back his November concession and dropped out in December instead, if i'm right.
