Pick a governor, senator or represenative. Then pick a governor, senator or representative from the other party. The next poster will then describe how would an election occur between them. After that, they pick their own candidates.

You can pick two governors, two senators, two representatives, or a governor and a senator. Note that your selections must currently be in office.

For example, I will begin with Mitch Daniels versus Tim Kaine. The post after this should describe how an election would occur between these two, and then select a new pair.

Kaine Vs. Daniels ends with Kaine winning. Kaine does well in the traditional liberal and Democratic areas, as well as winning both VA and W.VA. He also does well in the southwest with his roots in Latin America (he worked in Honduras) and his Catholicism. Daniels does well with the right, but fails to do much in the swing states.

My two, Martin O'Malley vs. Bob Corker.

Gov. O'Malley does well in the normal democratic states plus the southwest. Sen. Corker is another Bush.

Ensign Retakes several states in the west, while Schuler holds onto most of the traditional Democratic states and improves in the south, although most of the south still goes to Ensign.

Despite beign a less than charismatic campaigner, Cantwell buries Sessions.
His extreme right positions and anti-minority rhetoric alienate suburbanites and galvanize African-Americans and Hispanics, giving Cantwell unexpected victories in states like North Carolina, Indiana and Arizona.

My turn.

Jindal: 274
Schweitzer: 264

Jindal plays well in the South and areas of the Great Lakes, while Schweitzer dominates the West.

Vilsack: 318
Barbour: 221

Vilsack and Barbour each win the base of their parties and the election boils down to being decided in the "farm states" where Vilsack plays better than Barbour.

Paterson is simply considered to be inept and  Snowe is a strong candidate on the national state.

Portman has more national experience than Kratovil, and this map may be generous.

That was pretty obvious from the moment he said that Jindal will carry Wisconsin, Iowa and Virginia.

Two moderate candidates split the vote regionally.
Casey's background helps him carry the Rust Belt.
Hutchison's moderate conservatism keeps the South in line. But without Ohio, West Virginia, and with the Mountain West slipping away, it's impossible to put togheter a winning coalition.

Rounds beats Patrick in a landslide.

And how about...Stephen Lynch (D, MA 9) versus Eric Cantor (R, VA 7)?

Lynch 298
Cantor 240

Lynch overperforms in the Rust Belt and the Southwest by doing well with working-class Catholics.

Lynch being a working class pro-lifer would have done a lot better I think.  Cantor being Jewish probably wouldn't do so well in the South.

Are you suggesting that most Southerners do not support Israel?

Anyway, Akin wins, 216 to 322:

Now how about Jay Nixon versus John Ensign?

I'm suggesting they wouldn't support a Jew over a working-class pro-life Catholic.  Learn to read.

The very thought of Lieberman in office leads to a huge amount of Democrats voting third party, and this helps Cantor win.

Next: Jack Reed versus Kit Bond.

Brown's working class background and populist rhetoric help him dominate the Rust Belt and the Latino-heavy western states.
Davis's moderate record helps him with Virginia and Florida but he is unable to make inroads north of the Mason-Dixon line.
