I will go with Connecticut but I guess Rhode Island or Massachussetts could work.

I voted Maine. It's a pretty liberal state with a sizeable pseudo-French population.

Slightly bigger than Michigan by population and about the same size as Mass. and Conn. put together.  Around New Jersey in total GDP and Wisconsin in per capita GDP.  And like Germany, WAY too white.  I'm going to go Wisconsin.

It's kind of similar to Louisiana with a French south.

It also reminds me of Maryland in that sense--in that Maryland is sort of a mix of North and South, while Belgium is a mix of French and Dutch. Not to mention the government presence.

I want to say NJ since the north hates the south and the south hates the north in both situations.  Wink

By population density, Massachusetts. Wink

The correct answer, of course, would be Canada... if Canada were a state of the U.S. As is, probably Lousiana.

Actually, New Jersey isn't a bad comparison. Virginia (NOVA vs "Real Virginia") and Maryland (blacks and urban & suburban white liberals vs culturally Southern rural whites) aren't either.

I'm going to say Maryland. But that is insulting Maryland, sadly, if anyone has ever seen Belgium's cities. Eww....

Baltimore is almost as depressing as Brussels; it's a close contest really.

Did you actually vote in the poll?

Anyway, I'm afraid I don't see the Vermont connection terribly well. So, Vermont has a few French people along the border? And that makes it like Belgium? Eh.

Michel Daerden is dead drunk, so that doesn't help.
