This was great. I totally wasn't expecting it.

JD Hayworth and Harold Ford were on Hardball tonight, talking about the Stimulus Package. Matthews was acting like his usual self, not allowing the person that he disagreed with (Hayworth) to get a word in without immediately countering it with a talking point. Hayworth had enough and said something along the lines of, "You just want to play "Gotcha!" on economic policy because you wanted to run against Arlen Specter for his Senate seat!"

For the first time in a long while, Matthews was speechless (unless you count some stuttering). Ford starting responding to some other point and Matthews didn't even bother to address it.

While that specific interchange was amusing, the rest of what Hayworth was saying was even more amusing. George Soros and Chuck Schumer are the ones responsible for the recession?

Tongue

Let's not turn this into a discussion about the other discussions on the show.

This was the same discussion, just a different time-stamp. Although, when I watched the show earlier initially I thought Chris was dominating JD when JD was going off about Soros & Schumer.

However, you are absolutely correct in that JD was one of the first people I have seen that actually got Chris to shut up for a brief period, which is quite entertaining in itself.

For any of you that didn't watch the exchange who want to check it out:

Isn't this the guy who lost his congressional seat by like five points and then tried to pretend that he didn't lose? Pretty amusing random outburst though anyway.

I have nothing to say about Hayworth other than I'm glad he's a former Representative.

I'm sure Hayworth has skeletons, why didn't Matthews bite back?

I'm sure Hayworth has skeletons, why didn't Matthews bite back?

Hayworth made his crack in the context of Matthews tearing him a new one over his "explanations" for the economic crisis. If Matthews had responded by lowering himself to that level, it would make him look desperate and personal, because it's about his own career and not his political views. There was nothing for Matthews to do but move past it.
