The Legacy of President Kennedy

In 1997, the BBC screened the 7th series of the popular comedy sci-fi series "Red Dwarf" set in and around a deep space mining vessel. The first of the series was called "Tikka to Ride" and revolved around Dave "The Last Man" Lister getting a curry by using a time drive (but which landed the crew in Dallas in November 1963) where they prevented the assassination of President Kennedy. They jumped forward to 1966 where the following alternate history was outlined:

1964: President Kennedy impeached for sharing a mistress with a mafia boss.
1964 - July 1965: Kennedy is formally charged and convicted
July 1965: Kennedy sentenced to three years at an open prison for three years
July 1965: Hoover elected to the Presidency (having been forced to run by the Mob)
August 1965: USSR allowed to build nuclear missle base in Cuba in return for coke trafficking between Cuba and the US
September 1965 - January 1966: All major US cities evacuted
