Probably just a typical politician asking for campaign contributions. I wouldn't read any more into it.

I guess so. But I just think it's... weird that he's all "VERY URGENT! DONATE TO ME" at this time. Maybe he's hearing challenger rumors!?

Mark Sanford...? Tongue

I'm guessing there was an internal poll that he set up that scared him sh**tless.

I see nothing wrong with a request like that but he made himself seem desperate.

It's not like DeMint won in a landslide in the first place. He ran against a total nut in Inez Tennenbaum. If the Democrats field a credible challenger, he could be in trouble. Although, since his reelection is in an off year, he might be in better shape.

The sad truth is, there aren't any credible challengers for us.  As you have noted, Jim Clyburn can be a real jerk.  Congressman Spratt seems like a possibility but I'm not sure he has statewide appeal.  He's been a big advocate of health care coverage for children, which may not fly in Sanford country.  What about Jim Rex?  I know nothing about him.

Bottom line, unless Fritz Hollings is coming out of retirement...this is a Republican seat.  Funny thing -- Hollings would still be younger than about six Senators!  LOL

Rex is supposedly looking at the governor's mansion.

I don't know who will be running to take over Mark Sanford's job either. Andre Bauer certainly shouldn't be, and if he did, I doubt he wins the primary if he has an opponent. I really liked Robert Barber, but I doubt he'll run for anything again after losing to Bauer for the Lt. Governor's job.

Rep. Gresham Barrett is running for Governor. Democrats have pretty much nobody, maybe State Sen. Vincent Sheehen, but I would only expect a win if Andre Bauer somehow won the nomination.

Anyway, according to SUSA, DeMint is more popular than Graham or Sanford:

Sanford is at a 41-55 approval rating.
Graham is at 46-43, while DeMint is at 48-39.

Doesn't seem like he needs too much help.

Most people don't give money to a politician, especially in a bad economy, unless they perceive an immediate (read: urgent) need.

I don't see why Jim DeMint thinks he's in trouble. He's the most conservative member of the U.S. Senate which should bode well for him in the red state bastion of South Carolina, but I honestly don't see how South Carolinians can keep electing this right-wing nut job who said that openly gay people and single mothers living with their boyfriends shouldn't be allowed to teach in public schools? WTF. Bigotry at its best. Wake up South Carolina and join the 21st Century and ditch this freak! Tongue

That guy is an immature prick.  Yes Jim, gays and single women shouldn't be allowed to teach in public schools.

This is what runs our country folks.  It's coming apart!

DeMint has been the strongest voice for fiscal responsibility in the U.S. Senate and with the way that Bush and now Obama are spending us into oblivion we need staunch supporters of fiscal restraint in D.C. now more than ever.  For that reason I plan on supporting Jim DeMint for reelection.
