Not until they're allowed to smoke/possess marijuana, no. Tobacco smoking should be outlawed until marijuana consumption is decriminalized.

The difference in carcinogens between soap and a newport pack is like the difference between a bb and a .45.

"In our effort to legalize, and for the ability for people to decide on their own whether they should smoke or not, we'll be outlawing tobacco." Bullsh**t.

As I've said before, I'd be perfectly fine "trading" the legal status of marijuana and tobacco. Marijuana is great and tobacco is one of the most awful things ever.

No, it should remain illegal, but society should continue to turn a blind eye towards it...it provides convenient grounds to bust people that, for whatever reason, you can't pin bigger charges on, so keeping it illegal gives law enforcement one more charge to bring down on those people's heads.  Same way I feel about booze...if there's someone under twenty-one that really needs to be arrested, alcohol charges are a convenient way of doing it.

Of course not.  Dip is the one of the most disgusting things in the world.  In fact, in my top 10 list of the least desirable things a girl can do, dip topped out at #1.  Let's spare the gums of people not mature enough not to know not to do it.

I think thick mascara and chocolate yogurt are disgusting and unattractive too, but I'm not going to ban them
If mascara is found to cause cancer, then yes, let's ban it for under 18's.

soap, deodorant, hair spray, Johnson's Baby Shampoo, talcum powder, and hot dogs all contain carcinogens.  should their consumption by under 18s be banned?

Ok, if soap is found to cause cancer at the same rate as cigarettes, than yes, ban it. Roll Eyes

And why draw the line directly at that point? Why can't we ban everything that could be remotely dangerous?

After all, it's for the kids' own good.

Laws should regulate purchases, not consumption.

No, along with that we should ban smoking from public places and increase the taxes on tobacco.

MIP (of alcohol) is an bustable offense.  Like Tweed says, minors possessing tobacco is not even a "citable" offense in most places, as far as I know.  Definitely not arrestable.

With parental consent, yes. Should have to be 18 to purchase it, however.

Of course. It should be illegal to sell it to a minor, but legal for them to possess and use it. Maybe caveat of 'with parent/guardian permission'.

it turns out it is illegal for minors to smoke/possess in Maryland.  not sure how or if this is enforced.

it is actually illegal in what looks like a majority of states:

the fact that none of us knew this seems to suggest that such laws are largely unenforced.  could somebody in a minor-in-possession state provide anecdotes?  NY has no laws at all for minors - it is even legal for a minor to *try* and purchase tobacco - so I'm in the dark.

I've known it was illegal in California for some time. It's completely unenforced though.

Huh.  It's still overwhelmingly a citation crime, though.  You can't arrest people for that.

We have the same law.

FWIW, I've known about the Minnesota law for a while. Don't ask.
