Bayrou is againts the return of France in the NATO, but I certainly don't think he's anti-american. About economics, he's at the right-wing but criticized many governmental economical policies like the "bouclier fiscal". In synthesis, I think he's a real centrist, and for many issue he's near the PS's position. Personnally, i'd give this score in political matrix : E +1, S -3

Bayrou is against NATO just because he's the opposition. Look at what the then-opposition's response to leaving NATO was in 1966.

Bayrou is not anti-American, but he's more skeptic of the United States than Sarkozy.

The French centre is historically economically moderate, although Bayrou has criticized government policies. But then, the opposition criticizes everything.

He is becoming more and more socially liberal, but he is opposed to gay marriage for example. Not that social-ethical issues are all that important in France.

The last time I did this thing, I got these results

François Bayrou (UDF) 33.3%
Frédéric Nihous (CPNT) 16.7%
Nicolas Sarkozy (UMP) 8.3%
Ségolène Royal (PS) 8.3%
Olivier Besancenot (LCR) 8.3%
Marie-George Buffet (PCF) 8.3%
Dominique Voynet (Greens) 8.3%
Viscount Squeaky Voice (MPF) 8.3%

Bayrou 80/20 in the runoff.

My bad, I didn't read the whole topic. Let's hope a sane guy will be ahead, but since there is no sane candidates in French politics...

None of the candidates in 2007 were sane, or anywhere close to being so.

I hope we're not going to have a tie...

Flip a coin. That's what I did when I did this series of polls.

In real life, I think it's the older candidate who wins, isn't it ? Bayrou is born in 1951, Nihous in 1967. Bayrou wins ! Cheesy

Yes, if there's a tie in any election, direct or indirect, the older candidate wins. A few General Council Presidents got elected due to that clause last year, IIRC.

Of course, it's actually fairer and more democratic to flip a coin (!)

You're right, but who can control if I really flip a coin or if I invent the result ? That's not a safe method. And anyways, rules are rules !

We trust you to be honest Grin Though maybe not since you don't like Nihous and like Bayrou Wink
