http://politicalwire.com/archives/2009/04/07/bunning_loses_to_any_democrat.html

Political Wire got an advance look at a new Public Policy Polling survey in Kentucky that shows Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) with a 28% favorable rating as he attempts to run for a third term.

Bunning loses head-to-head match ups with all four Democrats considering a run against him: Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo, Attorney General Jack Conway, state Auditor Crit Luallen and Rep. Ben Chandler.

Complete poll results will be released tomorrow.

I'm sure he hovers around 80 percent in Jackson County, though!

that would be the worst possible scenario for Democrats (at least the ones where Bunning doesn't retire).

PPP is a Democrat pollster, if I recall correctly.  Still, these numbers are not good for Bunning.

PPP was one of the best pollsters of the 2008 cycle.

And their Democratic affiliation didn't prevent them from showing Lincoln's underwhelming numbers in Arkansas last week.

The numbers:

Bunning (R) vs. Chandler (D): 33-47
Bunning (R) vs. Conway (D): 33-42
Bunning (R) vs. Luallen (D): 34-42
Bunning (R) vs. Mongiardo (D): 36-43

Grayson (R) vs. Chandler (D): 34-40
Grayson (R) vs. Conway (D): 33-37
Grayson (R) vs. Luallen (D): 36-34
Grayson (R) vs. Mongiardo (D): 40-36

Williams (R) vs. Chandler (D): 30-45
Williams (R) vs. Conway (D): 29-43
Williams (R) vs. Luallen (D): 31-41
Williams (R) vs. Mongiardo (D): 32-43

Favorable Ratings:

Grayson: 46% favorable, 19% unfavorable
Williams: 28% favorable, 41% unfavorable
Chandler: 38% favorable, 28% unfavorable
Conway: 40% favorable, 21% unfavorable
Luallen: 43% favorable, 21% unfavorable
Mongiardo: 41% favorable, 34% unfavorable

Bunning Approval Rating:

28% Approve

PPP surveyed 610 Kentucky voters on April 2nd and 3rd. The survey’s margin of error is +/-4.0%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.

The 2010 midterms will hinge on Obama, and we all know how Kentucky feels about him.

They are feeling good about him:

According to this poll he has a 46-45 approval there and according to SurveyUSA it's 56-38. Not bad for a state where he only got 41%. This is more about Bunning than about Obama. Only Greyson could make the race close.

Funny how Chandler does the best despite fairly anemic approval ratings.

Grayson was always going to make the seat fairly safe for the GOP, but Bunning is his political mentor and Grayson has said a thousand times that he would never primary Bunning

Oh, come on now. It's April. You know those ratings likely won't be above 45% by the end of this year and almost certainly not at that point in 2010 if things stay pretty much the same.

Conway enters the race, meaning we'll only have two serious candidates

Damn, I never realized how pretty Jack Conway is, great name too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtgECkIPaL8&eurl (announcement video)
I think they need to perhaps find a new background music guy though

For Democrats uncertain who to support, Conway is the one that isn't the anti-gay, anti-environment candidate but who is also more electable
