But my point is actually this.  An event like this might cause the "boobs" to reevaluate their positions and they may "stumble" onto a viable path.

As if the tea-baggers and Rush will let them do that.

FOX headline, Specter 'Turns back on GOP voters'. Disgusting.

LOL he didn't?

I was literally responding to a post about Specter kissing up to conservatives/Republicans when I heard the news. He's spineless and turned his back on the people he was guilting into supporting him.

That is a biased headline. Although I really don't understand why Specter was apparently so sure he was sticking with the GOP last month.

The base of the GOP tried to throw him under the bus, him finally having enough doesn't = turning his back on them, especially the way  Fox used it.

A proper headline would be Specter switches as GOP moves right.

For the record I would much rather Schwartz, Murphy, Sestak over Specter

There are plenty of Dems that are more liberal than he, but I think the imagery of "Arlen Specter (D-PA)" is more powerful than any generic liberal we could have in the Senate. I'm very happy to have him.

Uh...he was lying? Let's go with that answer. He's been at least thinking about this for awhile so he was never "so sure" about staying.

Specter has said that he wil not change his position on card check.

He's gonna have to change it back... again.  Rendell won't clear the field for him if he doesn't.

This was definately a political move, there's no question there. His specific views have been more in line with the Dems than the Reps for at least 30 years. However, why is this the perfect time to be announcing this, and why did he have to lie about it last month?

The Facebook and Conservative website comments are amazing.  Our own activists want to give away Snowe, Collins, McCain, Alexander, Gov. Schwarzenegger, to the Dems.

This is insanity.

Given the ever crumbling power of the fundamentalist wing of the GOP, it might be better to try to build back the 'Rockefeller Republican' wing, enough so that they could actually compete in states like ME next time. I'd certainly consider voting for an economic conservative that wasn't a religious zealot.

Why? What has he done to be considered RINO?

While I enjoy having 60 seats (this makes the once ikely Republican 2010 campaign "Don't elect Obama's 60th seat!!!" useless), Specter bet not screw around and try to keep voting like a Republican. If he doesn't switch back on EFCA or vote consistently with Obama, he needs to be primaried.
