Not sure if this is confirmed yet, but Human Events is reporting that Specter is about to switch.

If this is true, congratulations to my Democratic friends on gaining a great Senator and achieving 60 votes in the U.S. Senate.

Update: Washington Post confirms it

Well, the WP has his statement about the switch.

"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary. I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election."

It's true guys.

I know Specter is liberal on social issues, but is he that left?

He's pro-choice but a bit law-and-order-ish

What if he loses the DEM Primary?

I'd find that pretty damn funny.

He's been forced into this scenario because there is no way he beats Toomey in the Republican primary. At least as a Democrat there's a small chance he can get elected to another term.

Now that he has switched, Rendell will pull out all the stops in order to clear the field for him.

We'll take him for now but I hope we can primary him.

Anyway, this should provide us with an ...interesting news cycle.

The Republican party needs more like him, but I'm glad he's decided to leave the dark side.

You may be right, Phil. We've got a while. The fallout from this is going to be pretty intriguing.

And yet your Facebook status says nothing like this. Pick a side, Don. Really.

Now he can put "Obama and Specter for Working Families" and win that way.  What's your point?

The point is that refuse to acknowledge that that move was ridiculous and if anyone you didn't like did it, you'd be screaming about it.

Is he going to support card check now?  Am I wrong to think Toomey has a better chance against Benedict Arlen than a real Democrat?

Those are my thoughts. This actually gives the Republicans a better chance of holding the seat, at least in my opinion. Specter will look like a political opportunist.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does.  It still won't have the votes.

Hard to tell, really.  I'm sure we'll get a poll.  Then we can comment.

Honestly, this is one of the best things to have happened to the Republican party this year, strangely enough.  There may finally be a bottom soon enough, if not now.
