Jefferson in 2010! If Jim Traficant can run from his jail cell, why not Bill?

The Louisiana Constitution theoretically doesn't allow convicted felons to run from office while behind bars.  Whether that would apply to a federal office with no such constitutional requirement is an interesting question.

It's sad that he still would have been a better representative for New Orleans than Anh "anti-stimulus" Gao (R).

We all saw this one coming.  Even Miss Cleo could've predicted this one.

Look on the bright side, the media can't spin this now as part of the Democratic "culture of corruption" and rave about how one Democratic congressman means the Democrats are 100x more corrupt than the Republicans ever were.

Philip can tell you more about this than I can, but I am pretty sure that the states cannot impose requirements on candidates for Congress additional to those laid out in the Constitution.

I wonder if there's a scorecard somewhere of corrupt Republicans v. corrupt Democrats?  I bet it would come out almost dead even.

Any list would be hard to come up with in a "fair and balanced" way.  Where do you draw the line?  Would it include every alderman/councilman that took some money under the table from a construction company?  At least state wide elected officials?  Do we count the extremely insane that don't really represent their parties very well like McKinney or Bachman (not that either is necessarily corrupt, just nuts)?  And you couldn't just add 'em up as some things are MUCH worse than others.  I suppose we could start at the worst of the worst and see if any patterns emerge....do Cunningham and Jefferson balance each other out or are the actions of one substantially worse than the other?

Correct, of course.  I do agree that it probably comes out about even.
