Phil made an excellent observation in another thread.  What if there had been a state emergency?  Shouldn't the Lieutenant Governor at least been prepared privately for the Governor's absence?

And in these days of international terrorism, might not law enforcement been worried about a kidnapping?  Oh, I realize the governor of a state is hardly a prime target but a terrorist or just a general criminal is not always in his right mind.

A resignation is certainly in order, if only because Governor Sanford must devote all his time and resources to healing the breach of trust in his family.  (I said the same thing about Bill Clinton.)  All my hopes and prayers are with Sanford and his family for healing to take place.

This guy is the biggest hypocrite in modern politics. Not only he had an affair, but he left his state headless in order to see his mistress.
The NY Republicans were ready to impeach Spitzer if he didn't resign. What will their SC counterparts do?

Did Sanford ever really campaign on "Family Values?" He always came across as more focused on his libertarian streak.

It was a little disconcerting to hear him quote the Bible and talk about his "personal faith" during the mea culpa press conference.  It reminded me a bit of Helen Chenoweth.

That said, I really just want Sanford to get whatever help he needs in either reconciling with his wife or separating in as healthy a manner as possible.  His kids must be devastated.
