New to the board, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Scenario: Monica Lewinsky never interns at the White House, Clinton never gets impeached, Kenneth Starr resigns as Independent council after finding no proof of any wrong doing on Clinton's part in Whitewater.

Gore does not have to distance himself from Clinton, and Clinton campaigns actively for Gore.

Gore takes a page from the 92 playbook and chooses a fellow centrist southern democrat from a neighboring state to be his running mate, Former Georgia Senator Sam Nunn.

How does the election play out, discuss, with maps if you wish.

Welcome to the board!

The Gore/Nunn ticket would definitely win, especially since Clinton would be able to actively campaign with the Democrats. Gore/Nunn would carry Tennessee and Georgia, plus the addition of another Southerner on the ticket allows the Democrats to take Florida. I can't see the Dems taking Arkansas or Missouri. Furthermore, I think New England Democrats would be really upset that the ticket is, once again, comprised of two Southerners, so the Democrats may lose votes in the New England states.

I'm doing a TL, in which Gore doesn't seek the VP in 2000 due to the Clinton scandal, check it out.

If Clinton actively campaigned in AR, I'm sure Gore would have won it.

Would Nader do OK in this scenario, since the Democrats have 2 Southerners on the ticket?

Nader would still steal some votes, as Nunn is even more conservative from Lieberman, but still a solid win for Gore/Nunn

Especially With popular Clinton actively campaigning for his veep. Without Lewinski scandal Bush is not able to attack from "morality" positions.

Nunn himself may not be able to switch Georgia, but helped in Florida, New Hampshire and West Virginia.

This.

However, the effects of the lack of a Lewinsky scandal may have made religious values less important in the GOP primary, possibly leading to a McCain nomination.

You're welcome Smiley

And, btw, I think in such scenario McCain would lose too, but much more narrowly

Clinton is able to campaign heavily for Gore; In a time of prosperity and world peace, the map is this:

Gore: 356
Bush: 182
