McCain Leads AL by 20%

Question:
The poll, conducted by the Capital Survey Research Center, shows McCain with 54.8 percent of the vote and Obama with 35 percent. Obama is a freshman U.S. senator from Illinois. McCain is a veteran senator from Arizona.

About 9 percent of Alabama voters are undecided, according to the poll.
Libertarian Bob Barr and Ralph Nader, who will both be listed as independents on the Alabama ballot, both registered less than 1 percent in the poll.

Almost 62 percent of people surveyed said Joe Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee and U.S. senator from Delaware, is qualified to serve as president if needed.

About 56 percent said Republican vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, would be qualified to serve if necessary.

The survey was of 606 likely voters in Alabama with a margin of error of 4 percent. The poll was conducted Sept. 3 and 4 and Monday and Tuesday of this week.
