About this PollAbout the poll The poll for the Post-Dispatch and KMOV-TV (Channel 4) was conducted by Research 2000 of Rockville, Md., from Monday through Thursday. A total of 800 likely voters who said they voted regularly in state elections were interviewed statewide by telephone. The sample reflects Missouri's overall demographics, such as gender, race and geography. Those interviewed were selected by the random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers. A cross-section of exchanges was used to ensure an accurate reflection of the state. Quotas were assigned to reflect the voter registration and distribution by county. The margin of error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is no more than 3.5 percentage points for each number. This means that there is a 95 percent probability that the true figure would fall within that range if the entire population were sampled. The margin of error is higher for any subgroup, such as a gender or region. Separately, Research 2000 polled 500 Republican and 500 Democrat likely voters. The margin of error for those samples is 4.5 percentage points. Research 2000 will be polling in Missouri and Illinois in January.
