Poll Demographics

A Summit Consulting Group (R) survey released Wednesday shows Romney leading Perry by six percentage points, 31 percent to 25 percent. All other candidates polled in the low single digits.

Not tested in the poll were Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin. Neither potential candidate has declared an intention to run, but both are being tested in a series of other polls as they ponder the possibility.

Michele Bachmann met with Arpaio last week while Romney was in town, and she has been popular with the Tea Party coalition in Arizona. But in Summit’s poll, she garnered just 5 percent support. The survey was conducted several days after Bachmann and Romney visited; with her 5 percent backing, Bachmann tied Herman Cain. Newt Gingrich garnered 4 percent, Ron Paul received 3 percent, Jon Huntsman got 2 percent, and Rick Santorum had less than 1 percent. Twenty-four percent of the respondents remained undecided.

The results led Summit to conclude that the race in Arizona quickly has narrowed to Romney and Perry.
