I hadn't heard Deval Patrick being considered, but that could be a good choice.

Trump/Gingrich would be a very entertaining ticket, as would Trump/Christie.

One way to find out if Trump is as incompetent as some say he is, is if he picks Mary Fallin or Jeff Sessions. Fallin has run the state into the ground and Sessions is a total mushmouth.

All that being said, I think Scott Brown is probably the best potential choice among those who would realistically do it.

Oh my god, please choose the old white guy from Alabama.

Not to mention one who is a terrible public speaker.

Rubio is a pretty embarrassing lightweight, so no.

Looks like the Trumpster is now really eying Corker for the VP slot. A relatively unknown old white man from a state that he will win anyway. LOL.

All I have to say to that is Dick Cheney.

This is a pretty remarkable quote from that story:

Really?  Every single potential running mate on your list has "major problems"?  I'm not saying that's wrong, but it's not usually something that you'd expect someone in the campaign to publicly admit. Tongue

I think Manafort is desperately trying to get his job at the Kremlin back Tongue

I think Trump should pick former Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson. She would be a decent choice. She would appeal to the grassroots conservatives and the GOP-E. (GOP establishment)

Dude. She's been out of office for over 15 years, and her last electoral race was to lose a primary to Rick "oops" Perry. She wouldn't have a shot at running statewide in Texas anymore.

3, not 15.

Well, Gingrich is out of Office for 18 years.

Gingrich is pretty good at keeping himself in the spotlight, though - like his 2012 run.

I'm not sure why "has been in the spotlight recently" is an important requirement for VP.

EDIT: Anyway, this is silly.  There's no indication whatsoever that Hutchison is being considered, and no one has asked her if she's interested or anything like that, so I'm not sure why we're talking about her.

It's gonna be either Gingrich, Christie or Corker.

Why would it be Corker? He's the most boring establishment Republican ever.

Maybe Trump needs boring. Boring is not a terrible thing for a VP candidate. In the last several elections, the more conventionally "boring" VP won almost every time. I mean think about it:

2012 - Incumbent VP beats a rising star in the GOP from a major swing state
2008 - White dude senator from Delaware beats WOMAN Governor of Alaska who was picked in a SHOCK move.
2004 - boring VP beats charismatic huckster
2000 - boring Sec. of Defense beats boring Senator
1996 - lol Al Gore
1992 - lol Al Gore

1988 was the last time the more exciting pick won - Dan Quayle is far more of a shock pick than dull Lloyd Bentsen. Corker is a fine pick for Trump.

Though at this moment I kind of prefer Shelley Moore Capito as a potential pick.

also lol at Martin O'Malley being more left-wing than Hillary Clinton. He's a former NEW DEMOCRAT who changed his colors to win the White House.

I hate saying it, but Kaine seems like the right choice if these are our choices.

Susan Collins is a good person and she knows how to appeal to people in both parties, but she is a terrible speaker and I think Democrats would prefer her in the Senate to be a dealmaker. The Dems would obviously win her seat if she became VP, but I think her influence in the Senate is arguably more valuable than a Dem seat outright. She'd also get savaged by the GOP like what happened to Hagel when he got appointed SecDef.

Problem is she is not a dealmaker. Even McCain gets more ire from rank and file Republicans than Susan Collins because when the party calls her she listens.

This begs the question - why on earth is he going with Pence? Not the worst possible choice, but it's picking someone who is downright unpopular in his home state, and is the face of very unpopular anti-gay policies (a group of people that Trump has made a great deal of effort not to offend, at least compared to the other groups).

I mean, maybe he's trying to hold his conservative flank together so that he doesn't fall completely apart by general election time. I don't know. It's just a perplexing choice to me.

why would a general with any self-respect join the ticket with a candidate who has actually uttered the words "I love war"?

My guess: Indiana GOP keeps promoting the guy who hasn't even run in an election until this year (Holcomb).

ew Hickenlooper. I liked his work as Mayor of Denver, but he's been consistently disappointing as Colorado Governor.

Provide one legitimate non-identity politics reason why Booker is less qualified than Castro.

I don't support either being picked.

Booker is actually what the Sandernistas think Clinton is, and Castro is the ultimate empty suit.

Booker did vote against TPA, which you wouldn't expect from someone controlled by Wall Street. Yet the word that I've heard is that he and Clinton don't gel the best together.

that makes sense - Booker is a showboat and I don't think the Clintons like that.
