Does anyone want to guess this, or should I reveal it?

Note: it has to do with population (red and blue or arbitrary).

A little obscure. Karl Rove. Think Karl Rove.

The states Karl Rove was obsessed with?

Blue=Karl Rove visited there?  or something?  and Bush won.
Red= See blue, but Kerry won
Grey= Karl Rove was not connected w/that state

No.

Okay.  Karl Rove is obsessed with the election of 1896.  The blue states were taken by the winner of both the 1896 and 2004 elections, red were taken by the loser in each, and grey was taken by the loser in one and the winner in the other.

States with a population density of 30 people/sq. km or higher are red, less are blue

Okay, I'll solve my last one.
I though that it was easy, but noone even ventured a guess.
Every state displays the 2004 result of its alphabetically first county.
I'll leave the crazy thing just above unsolved for now.

Here's a new one:

It's political, and red and blue do mean Democratic and Republican.

It is some variation on the 1980 election map.

Yes - actually the red states have a density above the national average and the blue states are below.

Nope.  Think about 1904 instead.

I think I get your map, except shouldn't Florida be blue?
