Cynthia McKinney isn't a Democrat.

Agreed.  This is Atlas Forum so all the non teenagers probably have some vague notion of who Cynthia McKinney or Corrine Brown is.  But I doubt 95+% of the average people in America could even identify these people's party affiliation (as was demonstrated in my previous post).

Fundamentalist Christians on the other hand are almost constantly in the news for one reason or another and people have pretty strong feelings about them.

"Corinne Brown types" is just a nice way of saying ghetto black people. And Americans dislike the hood much more than Christians, obviously. We'be never experienced mass residential migrations to avoid fundies.

Should be the former, sadly it's the latter.

The later, obviously. Large part of the GOP establishment are Fundies/Evangelical Christians.

The fundies, for two reasons:

1) They are far more influential. (Not to mention an essential part of the Republican coalition.)

2) Republicans are less easily embarrassed by party factions.

Country club Republicans can discuss their dislike of fundies (among similar company), but limousine liberals can't say they dislike certain CBC members for fears of appearing racist.

I'm willing to bet that atheists aren't anywhere near a majority in Austin.

People who declare themselves atheists are a tiny minority everywhere. Non-religious is a different story, of course. And I reject this idea that fundies and richers are two separate wings of the GOP. There is a huge overlap.

The later, obviously. Large part of the GOP establishment are Fundies/Evangelical Christians.

"Fundamentalist" is a technical theological term concerning what the Truth of the Bible is. "Evangelical" is about sharing Christianity with non-believers regardless of one's position on Biblical truth.  Conflating the two makes no sense.
