Ryan has already ruled it out.

He could have just been deferring to McCarthy.

Yes but given the circumstance it's not implausible that he might reconsider

He already reiterated that he's not running.

Out of Webster and Chaffetz, who is more likely to get it?

Then who gets it? They're the only two running so far.

I think it's time to start a #DraftCathyForSpeakerMovement

Cathy McMorris-Rodgers is the only person who can restore order to the party.

A. One of the few Republican Congressmen who would actually win 218+ votes among their conference - most of whom have explicitly ruled out running, but someone might reconsider

B. A bipartisan compromise candidate elected by a secret ballot

C. An "interim speaker" to serve a role like the President Pro Tem of the Senate for the rest of the current Congress, it could be a random inoffensive senior Congressman or maybe someone not in Congress

I think we need to take a moment to appreciate just how batsh**t insane things have gotten that we are considering a SECRET BALLOT to elect a Speaker of the House when Republicans have their largest majority since Truman.

Can't live with him, can't live without him has never been more accurate.

Also, Webster says he's still running as well.

Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy: all tried to appease and exploit the Tea Party only to end up being consumed by it.
Poetic justice.

Paul Ryan really ought to run-I know it seems doubtful but he quite literally is the last person left that can prevent the Teabaggers from cannibalizing the party.

Wait, if the Freedom Caucus hasn't even decided who to back yet, then what the hell happened? What was the actual impetus for McCarthy dropping out?

From what I gather, the Freedom Caucus still backs Webster.

The Freedom Caucus meeting this afternoon was to determine if they could find a consensus on any potential compromise candidates to support (or at least not obstruct). They apparently couldn't think of anyone; they are still backing Webster regardless.

I am becoming increasingly convinced that the impetus for McCarthy dropping out was the rumored affair. It's becoming clear that he was very confident of victory at 8 AM only to announce his withdrawal at noon without telling anyone at all beforehand. The only thing that makes sense to me is that during those four hours someone must have threatened to air all of McCarthy's dirty laundry if he won

I wonder if Boehner will feel forced to remain in office until the end of 2016.
