The reaction to this thread is predictable, but if Jesus and Buddha are fair game for this kind of stuff, I don't see what makes Muhammad so special.

Maybe our beloved Senators could hush up about an NFL team's name and worry more about the federal government honoring Andrew Jackson by placing him on our national currency. What a joke.

Yes as well as George Washington (Indian killer), Thomas Jefferson (also Indian killer), Ulysses Grant (also also Indian killer), and FDR (locking up Asiany people).

The point is debates like these are dumb, which is probably part of the point Nap was making.

Where's muh healthcare?

I think the argument that Romney has 'dealt' with the negative impacts and somehow that negates its impact is WRONG. Romney would have to perform some kind of massive mea culpa, something he proved incapable of doing. He would also have to deal with a GOP that is actually more extreme and feral than it was in 2012. Plus, there's not even the 'moral' imperative there might have been from Gore in 04 or even 08. He lost and lost by more than circumstances suggest he should have.

It would be a suicide move... but please, go ahead. I can imagine the media "they couldn't find someone half-way decent to run, so they go to Mr Yesterday". Those in the GOP are better off waking up to themselves, standing up to the nutcases and getting someone unsullied.

I've never had Chick-fil-A, but being better than KFC is not difficult.

The CRA was less the result of conscious action by LBJ than it was action on the streets by activists who risked their lives to see it become a reality. Any person in office who didn't sign off on that risked political suicide, which is something I think LBJ readily understood.

LBJ didn't do all that Civil Rights stuff for only political reasons; his own anti-racism was also a factor.

You would have a point if he hadn't been a huge racist...

I think both parties are pretty diverse in this sense, but there tends to be a lot more public infighting on the Republican side than on the Democratic side.

It's sort of like two dysfunctional families. The Democrats are the family that merely tolerate each other out of common self interest or obligation, but have little to no connection and rarely communicate with each other, and just try to push their agenda behind the scenes, even if it hurts another member in the coalition. On the other hand, the Republicans are like the family that you see screaming at and beating their child in public for having a temper tantrum (or in the case of real life, shutting down the government). This only further fans the flames of the rivalry.

Of course he'd say this. He's in the same tradition as isolationists such as Abraham Lincoln, William McKinley, Charles Lindbergh and Bob Taft, before the Cold War made conservatives into temporary internationalists.
...what?

It's remarkable how their statures keep dropping, isn't it? Like the reverse evolutionary chart...
I'm not sure what you mean. Are you trying to make a joke? You don't really think William McKinley was an isolationist, do you?

Why not? He said he hated war, and the only one he was involved in during his presidency, he had to be dragged into by yellow journalists. The progressive Teddy Roosevelt is the one who lived and breathed the war.

"Less eager to start a war than Teddy Roosevelt" might include everyone not named Teddy Roosevelt.

No, our problem is that a lot of people in the party, and those running the party are still stuck in 1980.

Not sure if the Sulfur Mine is more appropriate, but here it is:

Its terrible that the Royal baby news was completely overshadowed by the video of a football player knocking his girlfriend out and dragging her out of the elevator like a caveman.

I, too, am disappointed that a serious national conversation about the NFL's shocking tolerance for domestic violence was not overshadowed by the personal life of a ceremonial figurehead of another country.

From the same thread as Tony posted from:

I love this thread. This thread truly represents what the Atlas Forum really is about during an election. Just people calling each other idiots and retards and hacks left and right, angered and incensed about the most meaningless of nonsense nothingness. God Bless Atlas.

I love all the turds in this thread going on about how being a 'poor' county qualifies it for being one of the worst counties or the worst counties in the country. I would personally say that the worst county is the country is whichever has the highest median income, because that would have the highest concentration of useless social parasites in need of a play date with the National Razor.

Why is it so trendy for libertarians to hate Lincoln?  Truly bizarre.

The horror of a President actually doing something is far too much.
