Speech from Northeast Representative BaconBacon96

Fellow Democratic-Republicans. I'm honoured to be given the chance to speak before you all today. Many of you might not know who I am. As a member of the Northeast Assembly, I keep a low profile and I only joined the Democratic-Republican Party recently, well after the last convention. However, it would be my greatest privilege to have the endorsement of this party for reelection to the Assembly this June.

The Democratic-Republican Party is a party that we should all be proud to be a part of. It is a party that stands for the principles of liberty and justice more than any other. When I was elected, I received numerous invitations to join the Labor Party and I hesitated. But when Governor Dallasfan reached out to me and offered me a place among the party's ranks, I was intrigued. Upon reading the party's platform, I was excited; I had found my party.

Our party is doing great things for my home state of the Northeast and all of Atlasia. The fight for the preservation of our nation's freedoms is a good fight and a fight that must never cease. We're doing well, but we've still got a way to go. As our Vice Chairman Maxwell said earlier, the high tax burden is crushing the middle class and killing small business. The Democratic-Republicans must remain true to the cause of keeping our government from becoming bloated and I'm confident we can do that.

It is an honour to serve in the Northeast Assembly, where I try advance the values that this party and I share so dearly.  By having the party's endorsement for the election, it would make that job a whole lot easier. Thank you.

Spiral and Max are elected to their positions, and I am allowing time for speeches on the convention floor.

Greetings, fellow Democratic-Republicans!

When I formed this party just a few weeks shy of a year ago, I didn't envision that we'd be enjoy the level of success that we have so far. It's an honor to see how far the party has come, and who is amongst us now. I certainly don't wish to take the credit for this, as I don't believe it belongs to me. Rather, I think we owe it to our members and stellar crop of candidates this cycle: Maxwell, who served with distinction as a Senator and helped revive the Midwest - Deus, who has been an exemplar of activity, accomplishment, and compromise - and BMotley, a fresh face that shows promise.

That's not to diminish some of our other members - Spiral is running for reelection to the Mideast Assembly, as is BaconBacon96 in the Northeast. The former has served as both a Governor and Senator, and in addition performed well as our party's nominee in February. The latter is a newcomer to the Atlasian politican scene, and I think he has potential to be a great public servant.

Lastly, I'm here tonight to advocate for Sirnick and myself. Though it's been mentioned before, Sirnick was an active Governor, and it speaks more to his temperament that he was able to pass two budgets that provided tax relief and had large surpluses, despite a Labor majority. Moreover, I believe that he fits out party's agenda almost to a tee. Why exactly?

As many of you may know, I've been serving as Governor and worked with Sirnick in the prior Assembly. The previous (and current) Assemblies have seen a bolstering of civil liberties and the rights of accused. With Sirnick, we overhauled our bail system (thanks Napoleon!), banned the use of faulty narcotics-detection dogs, and liberalized our public intoxication statute, amongst other things.

I think this shows that as President and Vice President, we can pursue work in a similar vein, by legalizing commercial drones and reforming our cronyist copyright laws, amongst other things.

I ask that we have your support. Grin

Might not be a bad idea. Our fellow BaconBacon is running for Northeast Assembly, so we should give him our support in that race.

I think we should post-pone an endorsement in the Northeast and Midwest, solely because we lack candidates in the Midwest (nobody has decided to run for Governor).

I would like to thank the Democratic-Republican Party for it's endorsement. We don't see eye-to-eye on economic policy, but more often than not I find myself in your camp when it comes to issue of personal liberty. In the next Senate session I would love to see the passage of bills that legalize the remaining restricted drugs in our fair republic and a new bill that I plan on introducing expanding the scope of civil liberties protections in our fair nation. I have worked closely with Governor Dallasfan65 in the past to introduce federal legislation modeled on his own in the Northeast, and I hope I can continue to count on your support in the upcoming election cycle, and beyond.

In solidarity,

Senator TNF

You speak to soon -

Sirnick, And all three D-R candidates are endorsed. We make no endorsement in the Midwest and Pacific due to none of the candidates receiving 75% of the vote.
