So now we don't expect a 36 year old with a wife and children to have personal responsibility and self-agency? There is no excuse for being naïve at that age, especially when you have as much money as they do.

For many many reasons we don't put 36 year olds in charge of foreign policy unsupervised, especially if they have zero experience and expertise. They're usually aides and that sort of thing, not principals.

People who inherited money are usually even more incompetent and naive than the average person and are vastly undermatched against someone like Kisylak.

Nothing to do with personal responsibility and agency.

Can we seriously take a step back and realize according to some on this thread and other social media that Trump's defense right now is "this administration isn't evil it's just stupid"

An editor for the Washington Post called out the NYTimes for quoting Kushner allies anonymously to provide a favorable spin on the meeting.

We know who was in the meeting where Kushner asked for a secret comms channel to the Kremlin outside of U.S. oversight:
  • Kushner
  • Flynn
  • various Russians

Ergo, anyone providing backstory on this favorable to Kushner is either one of those people, or going on hearsay from one of those people. There is no independent corroboration of Kushner's story because no one has the standing to say that. Meanwhile, Kushner, Flynn, and the Russians have no credibility as truthtellers and significant incentives to lie.

No. All diplomatic channels should be fully public.

I'm starting to think the Russians have zero problems with this stuff leaking, solely to stir chaos

This pushes me more towards accepting the Post's views.

Journalists turn quickly on other journalists. They like to pretend because they cannot aspire to be the politicians they cover. They think they're part of the Beltway but in reality they're basically the annoying kid from middle school who was in the grade below you that follows you and your friends around.

WaPo: It is my our opinion that many of the leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media Kushner. Whenever you see the words 'sources say' in the fake news media NyT or AP, and they don't mention names it is very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers. #FakeNews NyT or AP is the enemy!

LOL Cheesy

With two news outlets (AP and NYT) saying this was for Syrian negotiating purposes, it looks less criminal but still very stupid. I can believe this based on Trump's desire to cooperate with Russia on Syria as evidenced in his leaked conversation in the Oval Office. That said, why would U.S. intelligence agencies object to Russia and the United States working together in Syria? Why would that not be conducted through official channels?

However, that doesn't necessarily mean Kushner didn't later use Gorkov as a way to refinance his properties, and it doesn't obviate the allegation that Kislyak introduced Gorkov to Kushner, which raises more ethical questions. It doesn't also explain the fact Kushner left off the other conversations with the ambassador between April and December 2016.

There's gotta be money involved. The fact that the FBI isn't commenting (they usually leak stuff if they've got nothing, as we've seen throughout Trump's presidency) says to me they're serious about something this time.

Sanchez? You're not instinctively defended the Little Big Man. Are you feeling ok? Wink

But yeah, seriously, you've hit on something: When it comes to Trump and his family, more than any presidency in more than a century, it all comes down to the money.

THEIR money to be specific.
